The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed the placement throughout despite being in a challenging and fast-paced environment.
My team were very supportive and I was treated as a full time analyst so felt very valued.
Supported throughout the placement and always given guidance on what to do. You can get the most of it their support by asking follow up questions and always asking if you are struggling with something. All levels supported me when working with them and they are always welcome to questions.
Depends on client requests as it was very project based within the Corporate Bank.
Responsibility increased the longer I was at Citi. Once I was able to work the systems and understood basics, I was treated the same as a first-year analyst.
It will hugely help in finance modules as I will relate to a lot of things I worked on but not really in other modules. It will put me at a huge advantage after graduating due to the huge amount of skills learnt and ability to work to such a high standard expected
The Company
Everyone was generally very busy and so the office is quite quiet. People do try and chat when they can or often on a Friday when the work is sometimes quieter. The team often go and grab a coffee together to try and socialise and get to know each other more
There was organisation in terms of training for the first 3 days of the placement. We then had mid placement and end of placement reviews. During the placement we were just part of the team and so work being given was within the team and whatever comes in from the client
Citi provided official training in the first week and various online training throughout. The team continually made sure what I was doing was correct and corrected me when I was wrong and so continually helped my development. The team always took time to train me and develop my skills when necessary

There are many perks of a job with Citi in the Corporate Bank. The work is very exciting and being able to handle the relationship as well as the loan side is unique as well. Citi also supports juniors hugely and wants to make sure you can be the best you can be
The Culture
Not a huge social scene between placement students as after training we did not really see each other and so did not have the opportunity to socialise. I think the summer interns have a better social life with each other but less so with placements. I did have socials with my team though.
Canary wharf is very expensive. I lived slightly further out and with flatmates so it was a little cheaper but still London prices. Food and drink every day in Canary Wharf is expensive and can easily spend £15 or so on lunch and coffee alone. Can bring in food/coffee to make it less expensive though
Lots of bars around where people who work in canary wharf go for drinks after work. Especially in summer there are lots of places outside. There is also a sports bar which shows important matches. I don't think there are any clubs as it is more of an after work drinks place.
Not lots of opportunity due to the longer hours. Occasionally I was able to leave work early and see friends etc. but often I was unable. I would not have been able to join a weekly activity but I'm sure if there was something I wanted to do weekly that was important I could have negotiated with my manager.
