The Role
Overall the experience was a very fast-paced and exciting job role that demanded adaptability and flexibility throughout. Enterprise have really high standards that are maintained throughout the entire placement with constant challenges thrown your way! If you can contend with these challenges you will not only learn how to do a difficult job really well you will also learn a lot about yourself, what motivates you and how to work within a large professional organisation.
The culture is incredibly inclusive regardless of background, race, disability etc. All of my colleagues were very friendly and due to all employees going through the same process in terms of recruitment and personal development everyone is on the same page so it is very easy to ask for help or gain feedback which is unique to this company in my professional experience.
Again, as previously mentioned, training and personal development are founded in this company. Their "promote from within" exclusive mentality means that if you can commit to the job and truly want to succeed you will have access to the guidance and support you need to achieve your personal goals. With University in the background I dictated my pace from the outset and the company modified its approach to cater to my goals.
I worked in an Airport Branch. As a heads up, if you are successful and get onto one of these programs you will either go to a Home/City Branch or an Airport/Train Station Branch both of which are busy. These branch types, however, are busy in different ways - Airports and Train Stations have really high customer volumes and as such you will be with customers a lot more. Home/City Branches tend to busier in terms of individual customers, your volume is lower, however, you have to spend a lot more time with each customer (Delivering Cars, Collecting Vehicles, Supporting the Branch Functioning etc.)
This is a Management Preparation programme no questions asked. If you signup for this you are getting exactly what is advertised. They really do prepare you for a management lifestyle and this job is really tough initially due to all of the information provided, however, over time, this gets easier and as it gets easier, Enterprise will gradually increase your area of responsibility to keep you on your toes and continually developing so I would not be dissuaded from applying or staying on just because of the initial difficulty.
For me, a degree at the moment does not have enough in the way of practical learning. Most of us will know that University involves a lot of presentations and some practical support classes to develop your learning and understanding of a particular subject. This placement is the complete opposite, you understand the skills and training that will be provided well before you join Enterprise and as such their management trainee scheme is incredibly effective at creating people that can manage within small and large scale organisations. This has well and truly prepared me for a graduate-level role and I look forward to moving on and carrying this invaluable experience with me!
The Company
The airport branch did not have a centralised office, rather, 3 separate locations which comprised a small team dedicated to one part of the rental process (This is different in Home/City as you will normally have 1 central office building) However, this format really worked, communication was really effective and I enjoyed my time moving between different areas of the branch to switch up my workday. No day was the same.
Enterprise utilises a personal development folder to guide your training and placement time at the company. This is a well-established resource and Enterprise are incredibly effective at monitoring your placement to ensure you get as much value out of it as possible! The communication between Enterprise and my university placement team could have been better however this is only a minor gripe.
The company is really good and really invested in training its employees as, apart from customers, the employees of the business are culturally, Enterprise' best asset. They understand that employees are valuable and will continually invest to make the working lives of employees easier. I have learnt a lot about myself and my own capabilities on this job.
Flexi Time
Financial Bonus
I would like to work for Enterprise again. However, I would say that, if you decide to apply for Enterprise put in the hard work from Day 1 and ensure you are exceeding expectations (which to be fair are set high but are no means unattainable) it will put you in a much better position in the following 3/6/12 months.
The Culture
This was the first year Enterprise experimented with 6-month internship opportunities and I had one other colleague at the same branch who was on the same internship scheme as me from a different University. The experience I had with my colleague and the various other management trainees that joined the branch has, socially, been absolutely fantastic!
I am based in the area around the airport of which my placement is based. I am used to the higher living and costs associated with living near the city airport. The social factor, however, does suffer slightly at Enterprise. You are given a fantastic opportunity and working position this is balanced by the loss of social life you will experience. This applies for both Home/City and Airport/Train Station Branches and as long as you are happy with that, Enterprise is for you!
The city where I am based is known for its culturally diverse population and interactive nightlife. Whilst Enterprise is a company that encourages socialising and networking if you work at an Airport you can do some unsociable working hours. It turned out well for me as I performed best on night shifts however I am aware this is not something for everyone so keep this in mind before applying.
Yes! I opted not to take on many out of work opportunities due to the investment and time I had placed on my university coursework for my placement, however, much like the training, you can select what you want to do and the company will support you either way! Particular praise goes to their involvement with LGBTQ+ events and supporting disabled students with an array of initiatives.
