    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • This internship has been a fantastic opportunity for me to develop personally, but also network with some incredibly knowledgeable people. The opportunities I have been provided with are second-to-none, and I'm always kept busy day-to-day.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Everyone was always out for me throughout my internship and always looked to give me opportunities when they arose. I am very grateful for the culture at Coutts, as the flat hierarchy implies that you can talk to anyone you need to.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My manager has given me ongoing support throughout the internship, which has helped me to realise how I can improve. Sometimes, this would have to be arranged by myself which can sometimes become frustrating, but the outcomes of such have been really useful.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I have been quite busy - as interns we have a project which we are expected to work on throughout, so I've never really been quiet.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • In terms of my project, I have been given a lot of responsibility - I've had meetings with very senior members of the organisation, including the CEO, which has been a privilege. In terms of day-to-day, not a lot of responsibility but it has been more about learning how to master the basics, which Coutts teach you very well.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I have learnt how to present in front of an audience, which is important for the industry I want to go into. In addition, my time management skills have improved dramatically, which will help me when managing my time during my degree.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Inclusive atmosphere in which everyone is out for one another. Always a good laugh around the office, with the ability grab a quick 10 minutes with anyone you really wanted to.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Plenty of welcome days that gave us the opportunity to hear from senior figures within the company. There have also been various social events organised by Coutts and RBS which have been good to meet new people at. Would have liked my oversight from the people organising the internships, however.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Various days aimed at training us to use the systems at Coutts, however more exam-specific training comes as part of the graduate scheme, in which I believe Coutts invests heavily.

    3/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Company Parties/Events

    1/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Hopefully obtaining a place on the gradate scheme will be a possibility, which would make it a lot easier going into third year of uni.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Interns at Coutts specifically get on well, often going for a drik after work or out for food. In terms of wider RBS, various events have been put on to allow us to network, which have been very fun and are always subsidised which is good!

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Very expensive...

    1/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Lots of places to drink in proximity to the office, as well as clubs in London. Always something to do in the evenings which is great - just a shame about the price of some places...

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Yes there were various events that were recommended to us outside of work. Also as part of the programme, RBS put on a CSR day where interns are expected to raise as much money as they can for the Princes Trust.
