    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I really enjoyed my time, everyone was really friendly and the work was really interesting. I learnt a lot about the industry and what people do on a daily basis to help the client. It gave me a clearer understanding of the roles and allowed me to understand all stages of client care.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • I felt really valued, I felt like another member of the team. They fully immersed me in the work and gave me a lot of responsibility from the start which made me feel like I was part of the work force. I was treated like a member of staff rather than an intern.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • Lots! the training was really useful in adding to what I was doing in the office and gave me some more information about the roles which was really helpful. Everyone talked me through the work I was doing and was more than helpful when it came to answering questions and giving me support through tasks.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • It will be really useful when completing a masters to have a practical understanding of some of the basics. I am studying a geography degree rather than a property related degree so this experience will help me in my future masters. I learn by doing things so this was very valuable to me in gaining experience.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • Very well structured, I was in rotation so there was less structure than staying in one team but I really enjoyed the flexibility. Everyone was really good at emailing me work to do so I always had something on and HR/ the graduate team kept in touch always making sure everything was going well.

    4/5

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • Very good everyone was so helpful and welcoming. There was a sense of wanting to help me learn and gain a wide range of experiences in lots of teams which was really good as it gave me a large variety of work. I felt like I could ask people for work and help as everyone was so friendly

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • They invested a lot in me, taking lots of time out of their day to help take me through tasks as well as giving me an outline of what they did. Lots of people also took time to take me to sites and show me around Edinburgh and introduce me to the market.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • It was really helpful. I have had weeks experience before but being a permeant part of the team and being fully immersed for 4 weeks gave me an understanding of working life and the tasks people do on a daily basis. It also taught me a lot about how to talk to and communicate with clients.

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • It was really good, the office showed me how important communication was and getting to know those in the office as well as those in the industry. It made me appreciate how friendly and welcoming my office was and how much they all worked together and shared information and helped each other get work done.

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • It was very helpful it made me see that I really enjoy working with clients and seeing a project through from start to finish. This was something which the 4 weeks really helped with because I got the chance to see projects through. It also gave me an insight into a large company I would really like to be part of.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • I was paid for this experience and I didn't pay for any expenses so didn't need reimbursed. Every time I needed to pay for something a member of the team would give me money or pay for it so I wouldn't need to claim it back. The system worked well.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • Yes, I went to an Edinburgh young surveyors drinks event which was really good for meeting more people in Edinburgh as well as seeing how people in the industry network. I also went to a meeting with people from each of the big companies to share information. This showed how valuable networking was in the industry for sharing information.

    5/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • They were very good, they helped me meet more people and get to talk to people about the industry and how they got to where they are. It helped me establish the bet masters route to take and everyone was very friendly and took the time to talk me through everything.

    5/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • While I was here there wasn't much going on which was a shame but the team made the effort to go out for drinks and we went out for breakfast which was really nice and gave me the chance to get to know the team more. It was a nice way to get to know everyone in a more relaxed setting.

    4/5

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • Yes absolutely, the whole scheme is very well organised and easy to get involved and make to the most of your time. The organised system made it easy to settle in quickly and get stuck into the work and learn a lot about the industry. I really enjoyed my time and everyone was so friendly.
