About You
From the offset, I became involved in major projects that my team were involved in. It was certainly a hands on experience, and at the start I was expected to learn as I went along. In this sense I enjoyed the pressure of being part of the team, and felt I learnt a lot through the experience.
I felt like a valued part of the team during my insight month. I regularly went for lunches with other graduates and directors who welcomed me to the company. Whilst my team were very busy with work during my time at the company, sometimes they could not provide as much attention to myself, but I feel that they allowed me to contribute and still spared time to help me out.
At the start of the insight month, my team were involved in a significant project and therefore I did not gain much in terms of help and support. During this section of the placement, I was expected to undertake independent learning to understand tasks. However, after this job had finished, my team spent a lot more time providing guidance and support to myself
The skills I obtained during the insight month will be extremely beneficial going forward into my postgraduate study. As explained by my managers during my time at the company, some of the skills and knowledge I acquired during the insight month would be more detailed than what would even be taught during my postgraduate degree.
The Company
Overall there was no set structure to the insight programme. Whilst I was fairly busy for the majority of the placement, work only came when managers or other graduates required me to do a job for them. I was not set a specific structure prior to starting the placement scheme.
I could tell that during the start of my placement, my team were extremely busy with work and therefore the atmosphere of the placement was very different to when these jobs were completed. After this point, the atmosphere on the placement was really enjoyable, and all team members were very easy to get along with.
During the placement scheme, a timetable was given to me for a series of departmental overviews, along with webinars on the APC process and being a graduate with the company. Also, my team members provided training to me on the specific techniques used in the department which was extremely useful.
I feel that being on the insight programme has given me a real idea of what it would be like to hold a full time position at the company. Chats I had throughout the placement with members of my team and other employees at Savills helped me gain a lot of useful information about full-time employment at the company
Through the departmental overview sessions that were run as part of the insight programme along with the Savills company presentations, we were able to learn about the culture of the company. Also conversations with members of staff employed by Savills helped to give more information on the culture that is embedded in the company
Being on the insight scheme has given me a lot of confidence in my future career aspirations, and I feel that I would definitely be suited to pursuing a further career with Savills. I liked the fact that members of staff were honest with me with career advise, not providing a biased opinion
Everything Else
I was paid as part of this insight scheme.
There were several opportunities for networking during my 4 weeks at the company. It is clear that networking is a clear part of the Savills ethos.
The networking and social opportunities were very enjoyable
I did not find out much about this.
I would definitely recommend the internship scheme to anyone interested in pursuing a career in property.
