    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed my time undertaking the Summer Scheme. Not only was the internship incredibly helpful in broadening my understanding of the property industry, it also allowed me to build upon my existing knowledge and skill base in the industry. Finally, I really enjoyed the chance to meet and network with a number of experts in the industry.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • From my very first day I felt incredibly valued by my colleagues, especially those in my immediate team. I was given far more responsibility that I had expected as an intern but I believe that this allowed me to make a genuine contribution to the team and Savills as a whole.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I have received a huge amount of help, support and guidance during my time as an intern at Savills. My graduate mentor has been incredibly willing to answer any questions I may have and to provide assistance and guidance in tasks that I have been undertaking. Additionally, all members of my team have been happy to help me out where necessary.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Of the 18 working days that I spent at Savills, on only 1 of these was I not busy with work. My team were fantastic at making sure that I had sufficient work to be carrying out with overloading me with work that was either too difficult to achieve or mundane. Overall I believe I had the perfect balance of work to do and the work that I was given was interesting and varied.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given far more responsibility during my time at Savills than I expected to receive as a Summer Scheme intern. I genuinely feel that the work I carried out added value and helped my team out with the work that they were doing. I was trusted with dealing with clients directly and carried out site inspections independently,

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The knowledge and professional/personal skills that I have gained during my time at Savills will be invaluable when I undertaking my further study in Real Estate and into my career. I believe that my ability and confidence to interact and work directly with clients has improved greatly during this internship and the skills I have gained in terms of working with leases and other technical documentation has benefitted massively from this internship.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • I loved the atmosphere of my office, the small and open plan nature of the office meant that I got to meet people from across the office even those not in my team, this was really good for meeting a variety of people from across the business. Additionally, everyone in the office has been really friendly, helpful and welcoming.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The organisation of the internship was second to none. From the application process to actually undertaking the internship the process has been smooth and fantastically run. Throughout the application process I always knew exactly what was going on, what the next stage would be and when I would hear back from the company. Whilst undertaking the internship the organisation of talks and activities run has been seamless!

Finally, my team have taken the time to make sure that I am getting as much from the internship as possible.

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • The future employment prospects at Savills are highly appealing, if I were offered a graduate position I would definitely accept it. We have been actively encouraged to apply to future internships/placements and for the graduate scheme.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yes! We have had a number of social occasions organised for us by Savills and have also met up a number of times after work independently. All of my fellow placement students have been very friendly and there has been a real sense that we're colleagues rather than in competition with one another. There has been a really good social scene with my non-placement colleagues as well, I have socialised at lunchtime or after work on a number of occasions and this has been highly beneficial for networking as well as getting to know my colleagues better.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The office I have been working in is located in the City of London and therefore the cost of socialising is high. I chose to live at home during my placement rather than live in London and therefore whilst my cost of travel has been high my overall cost of living has been low.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • There are a number of excellent pubs, bars and restaurants in the area that I worked. After work I would regularly meet friends or colleagues for drinks in the area surrounding the office. This really added to my overall experience during my time spent as a intern at Savills.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Given the short period of time that I spent at Savills, there were a limited number of activities to get involved with outside of work aside from general social occasions. However, I did not necessarily go out of my way to seek out these opportunities so it's possible that they did exist but I was just not aware of them.
