    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • My experience at Sisk has been fantastic. I was given responsibility as my learning progressed, I had access to the necessary support at all times, and I enjoyed the social atmosphere in the office. I was challenged as well as supported, and felt useful and fullfilled during my time with Sisk.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Everyone was very welcoming and willing to help from day one. From the beginning, I was introduced to my coworkers, who regularly checked up on me, on my progress and experience. Everyone was friendly and open to answering questions and giving advice.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • The beginning was a bit rocky in that it took about a week to set me on an area and with a specific supervisor. However, from then, the guidance I received was ideal, leaving space for my independent learning while always being available to answer questions and guide me through new processes.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • There were quieter days and others that were more stressful, as in any job, but all in all, the balance was very good. I also developed my work-life balance skills with the help and advice of my coworkers, which I find to be a valuable lesson.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Overall, I was very satisfied with my level of responsibility, it matched adequately my knowledge and position. Sisk provided a good balance of independence and support, and I felt useful and part of the team even though I was there for a short period of time.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • My placement with Sisk helped me gain a practical understanding of the construction process from a more hollistic perspective. I believe it will help me most in the coordination aspect of my degree, when it comes to projects and practical areas.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere was welcoming and friendly. My coworkers asked me regularly about how I was getting on. Socials were also organised where you could get to know everyone in a different, less professional environment.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The organisation was good and clear from beginning to end. I would have appreciated a bit more information prior to the placement about it, but overall it was good.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • From what I experienced, Sisk is committed to its workers' learning and development, providing opportunities. For example, they organised my HSE exam for operatives, and they help their graduates become chartered through the graduate Excelerate programme.

    3/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    National Travel

    Company Parties/Events

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • The company has a three year graduate programme that helps you on your way chartership. It consists of various 8 month placements on different locations and different types of projects, followed by a longer placement. This programme was appealing before my time at Sisk, and is even more now, being aware of the challenges, responsibilities and atmosphere Sisk offers.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • All the placement students got along very well, relying on each other for help or advice, as well as just to have a laugh.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Working in London, the cost of living and socialising was high.

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Once again, living in London, every opportunity was available a tube station away.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • During my time at Sisk, I attended a social organised for everyone in the office and greatly enjoyed it. Other activities, such as hiking and playing sports as a way of fundraising for charities, were available, but needed a bit more time of preparation that I spent in the company.

    3/5
