The Role
I have thoroughly enjoyed my placmenent year here, It has exceeded all of my initial expectations of all of the things the placement would involve. I have been given so much responsibility here and have been made to feel like my role makes a difference across multiple functional areas witthin the company.
Throughout the whole 13 months that I have been on my placement here I have recieved lots of support from all of my colleagues. This has been paticuarly important as I am based in a team where each team member has been based in a different country across EMEA so they're ongoing support and the fact that they reguarly thank me for my contributions has been great.
I have worked closely with both my manager and an on the job coach within my team and I have had weekly meeting between them and myself to discuss my progress and any issues that may have arisen across that week. They were very supportive in offering solutions to my problems.
Due to the nature of my role my workload can be very sporaditic and oftn will change depending on the time of the financial year. A lot of my role is made iup of Ad-hoc requests from my team also so it is hard to say how busy I was evry day, however I was kept fairly busy throughout the year.
In my opinion I was given more responsibility than I expected to get for an Intern. Nowhere within my emails or job role am I described to other people as being an intern and because of this I was given a lot of responsibility. I was involved in a lot of executive decsision making processes.
In my opinion and from what I ahve seen of my degree so far I have not seen an awful l;ot of cross over between the things that I learn within my university degree and the things that I have done within my role here. There have been maybe one or 2 times where a concept has come up that I have previously seen.
The Company
Towards the begining of my internship I felt like there was less people in the office, although this will be due to the nature of a sales role as often members of the team are travelling. Mid way through colleagues started to come in more and this made a difference. It was a friendly atmosphere.
I think that the placement was very well structured and offered a good set up. The placement started with a week of intense training which I found extremely useful as there was a lot that I needed to learn about the company to benfit me within my role. Training continued throughout the year and the handover was well structured.
I believe that members of my team and other colleagues within the company have all been outstanding at offering development oppurtunities. They are very supportive of you wanting to learn more about other functional areas and will do evrything they can to set this up for you. This is something I have seen them do with full time/permanant workers also.

There is an oppurtunity to come back to Intel after your placement year and join them on a graduate scheme. This may not be in the area that you undertook your placement in but they do offer oppurtunities to complete shadowing of different departments so that you can get a feel for them.
The Culture
Yes there was a number of intern committees which covered multiple interests such as sports and social. They reguarly organised nights out for all of the interns and sometimes these would be themed. They were a great oppurtunity for the interns to socialise with one another outside of the work environment.
The cost of living in Swindon is quite cheap. Rent is not too expensive and there are plenty of places to eat/drink that do not cost you too much. A lot of places are walkabale also so you can save money on tranpsort. I know the majority of interns living in Swindon walk to work.
The nightlife here is not awful, there are a range of different bars/pubs and clubs and the social scene is what you make of it. If you spent every single weekend here you may get bored or run out of places to go however it is very close to other towns such as Bath, Bristol & London.
Yes there were many oppurtunities for me to get involved in activities outside of work, the company really try to promote volunteering and will suggest a multitude of chances for you to get invovled in something differnt to your day job. There was also a lot of after work social activities.
