The Role
I was involved in lots of work which was interesting and challenging. I also learnt a lot of practical skills and techniques which I would not have learnt in university.
My team were welcoming and helpful and made everything good fun.
I was supported on all tasks and if I required help I was always able to ask without any problems.
When our section of the project reached slower periods it became quite boring as we were waiting around for something to happen. In the busy parts it was more enjoyable as I felt I could get more involved and learn more.
I was left to do smaller jobs on my own and help a lot with larger, more important things. I also learnt how to use all the instruments which meant I was sent out to use these alone. I also began guiding a work experience person as well.
They gave me a greater understanding of some areas of my degree and apply some of the stuff I have learnt in the past year. More importantly, I was taught practical methods by experiencing a real project which will be very useful when trying to conceptualise my degree next year.
The Company
Good fun atmosphere with a lot going on.
At the start pretty poor, it seemed as though they had not been expecting me. As I settled in it became much better and seamless.
They paid for my accommodation and travel which covered most of my expenses. The only issue with this was it came 6 weeks into my placement so I was to cover most of these myself at first.
Flexi Time
Travel loan
I feel like a valued employee so fairly good.
The Culture
Yes it was fairly good, I lived with a fellow placement student. As for outside activities there were few.
We managed to find cheap accommodation so worked out fairly well, the area itself was reasonably cheap in the right places.
You had to travel a long way to find some and hence we did not bother
