About You
I can't describe how much I enjoyed it. It was so much different than my past experiences with other law firms. I felt welcomed from the very first day, everyone was incredibly kind, helpful and easy-going and the three weeks felt like a blink of an eye. I will remember the placement for life. It was amazing.
Although merely a vacation placement student, I felt like a valuable part of the team. I got my tasks from Trainees, Associates, even Partners - everyone always explained the full context of the matter, gave me instructions regarding it, and provided great feedback upon completion. I felt like I was contributiong at all times.
My Trainee Buddy was the best guy in the world, I received an unmeasurable amount of support from day one. The rest of the team were also always happy to guide me, help with tasks, answer questions, or simply have a coffee and a chat. It was extremely easy to fit in.
The placement helped me understand what it really means to be a commercial solicitor. I know what kind of work I can expect to be doing in the future and I can't wait for it - I highly enjoyed it. I got to understand the work ethics, software, and I learned new skills and information every day.
The Company
It was very well structured - we had three weeks in one department which let us have a good grasp of the work involved and get to know the team better. There was lots of socials and sports as well, the placement was therefore not limited to the walls of the office but reached far beyond that.
The general atmosphere was very pleasant, it was a pleasure to work with those people and they made me feel like a valuable part of the team. While extremely professional and achieved, everyone loved to have a good laugh and chit chat. I would love to stay in touch with both my team and the other summer students, they are a great bunch.
The company invested a lot in us. We had an extensive IT training, each received a personalised work laptop and an outlook account. The team spent a lot of time explaining things to us, delegating tasks and taking care of us. On the top of that, there was plenty of social events.
I understood what it means to be a commercial solicitor by observing the team and by working on the tasks they gave me. I know what to expect from my future and I got to really like it, it made me excited to specialise in this direction and start working.
The placement let me meet people not only from my department but also different sectors and offices. I observed that the firm has the same culture in every place and what that culture involves. I felt included in it from day one and was always happy to actively participate in that culture.
I got the department of my choice and which I had always wanted to try. It exceeded my expectations and it made me excited to come in everyday. However, I also observed that even other sectors that I would never think of choosing offered unique and exciting work. I understood that the profession involves a bottomless well of opportunities and specialisations.
Everything Else
I was reimbursed expenses for my train pass everyday and I almost spent two hundred pounds worth of train for to and back . But you know what, I really enjoyed this placement and it was worth it so hopefully when I tell my friends about it they will hopefully join on my behalf and have as much fun as I did.
There were plenty of sports events, regular yoga, summer barbecues, lunches, drinks, pub quizes. The social and networking opportunities were a big part of the palcement. These activities were the main fun part about this insight and I really enjoyed it. It felt amazing to wake up and look forward to these opportunities.
Everyone was very inclusive and great to talk to, the events themselves were well organised and fun to partake in . There was no one that was bored of these social/ networking event opportunities which just made everyone feel a part of the team and really experience the fun like I did.
I was always emailed about all the social activities and invited everywhere. I got to know what people do over the course of the year as well. We sat down and had a chat with the employees and see their side of the experience so far and how it's like.
They are already applying and I have told them because this was honestly one of the best experiences of my life and I really enjoyed being part of it and I think they will too. One of my friends said she had been to one but it was awful so I definitely recommended this to her.
