The Role
The internship was quite enjoyable - it was well structured and I was given two clear tasks I had to complete over the 10 weeks. The graduate talent team ensured there were lots of opportunities for development (presentation skills, team building day) and it was easy to meet people from many different departments.
I did feel valued by my colleagues - they were definitely approachable and I felt I could talk to them and ask for help if I had any questions or if I was struggling. My colleagues also showed a keen interest on the project I was working on and would point me to other colleagues if they didn't know the answers themselves.
I had twice weekly catch-ups with my line manager, which was helpful as he could give me advice on how to improve my work and it was a good chance for me to discuss anything I was worried about.
I was definitely a lot busier at the beginning of the placement than I was in the last few weeks. In the first half, there were a lot more meetings and chances to meet people, in the second half I was more focused on working on my projects and completing my presentation.
I wasn't given a great deal of responsibility during my placement - didn't have the opportunity in my day to day role to lead a team. However, I do think I was given free-reign to take my project in the direction I wanted and didn't have people constantly checking in on me, I was given responsibility to control the parameters of my project, which was really good.
I definitely have greater confidence presenting to people (this will be really useful for my degree). I have also learn how to use Excel and Powerpoint more efficiently which are skills I hadn't needed in my undergraduate degree but will be invaluable for my masters. I'm also a lot better at time management now and meeting upcoming deadlines which will be really useful.
The Company
It felt like a really relaxed atmosphere - the timings were flexible (as long as you did your 8 hours a day it didn't matter when you came in and left). Open-plan well lit office and hot-desking was good as it meant you could talk to lots of different people.
Lots of development and personal training opportunities - had the chance to visit advertising and creative agencies in London and opportunity to visit other offices (EG. in Leicester and central London). Company also organised structured development days (EG. a commercial marketing business day, learning more about Local Heroes, Hive etc)

It was an enjoyable internship in that it was well-structured and I learnt a lot - however I won't be pursuing a role on the graduate scheme. There is no guaranteed job at the end of the graduate scheme and I feel like, as much as I learnt, I do not find the gas and energy market engaging and interesting enough personally to pursue a career here.
The Culture
We all stayed in the same accommodation block so it was easy to meet other interns and organise social events. There were several pub trips organised and I know other interns went on weekend trips they organised among themselves (such as to Thorpe Park and a local water park). However, not much was organised by the company in terms of socialisation, it was assumed we'd make our own fun.
No cost of living as accommodation was provided for the full ten weeks. Restaurants and pubs reasonably priced and the canteen food at the office was of good quality and reasonably priced too (between £3-£5 for a main)
Didn't personally go out in the evenings but I know other interns went to a local club in Windsor and enjoyed it.
Some opportunities but mainly it was left to us to organise our own activities outside of work. I went on a team trip during a weekday which was fun.
