The Role
The placement was very insightful and enjoyable, providing a varied overview of the different areas of Risk. I was given the opportunity to take on projects from a variety of teams, both within and outside the department, providing me with a greater understanding of how a bank functions.
From the outset I felt highly valued, taking on a large proportion of the business as usual tasks within my team early on. This allowed other team members to take on larger projects without interruption. I was then given the opportunity to work collaboratively with other team members as I progressed throughout the placement.
During the placement I had bi-weekly meetings with supervisors to discuss both my development and how the tasks I was undertaking were helping me achieve the desired progression. Further into the placement I was given the opportunity to have multiple meetings with senior members of the department to discuss career progression
My workload varied daily, with business as usual tasks sometimes taking up the majority of my time. However, over the course of the placement I found sufficient time to work on specific projects to allow for wider learning.
The level of responsibility I had increased as the placement developed, becoming fully integrated into the department after the initial training period
The skills I have developed will undoubtedly assist me after university, as I will be able to offer a wider variety of skills to employers upon graduation. The wider training I received has also helped me to decide on the career path I want to pursue. I will incorporate the technical skills I have learnt into my University studies at university to improve the efficiency of data manipulation.
