    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed the work placement, the development day was fun and encouraged us to mingle with students from other streams which was good. I also appreciated being welcomed into the team as if I was a permanent member, I felt valued and not used as cheap labour.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt very valued as I said before, my input was often taken onboard and I was given recognition for my work.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was given so much support through multiple channels, from my buddy, to my line manager, graduate talent manager and other management figures in my direct team. If I ever had a query or doubts, I always had someone to ask.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was pretty busy on a daily basis, other than waiting for responses or emails - in which time I could always schedule in meetings with other teams within my stream to gain a wider insight into their function.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a lot of responsibility - I was trusted to converse with external suppliers, hold meetings and also provide my input into addressing some of the problems the company was facing in terms of monitoring processes.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I have received invaluable experience that has increased my confidence and enabled me to network with helpful individuals that I wouldn't have met otherwise. The investment Centrica make in their placement scheme is phenomenal and greatly appreciated.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • I was based in the Windsor office which is probably the most 'corporate' of all the Centrica-owned offices. However there is still great break-out areas and the ground floor space that you can work at to break away from your desk.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The placement was very well organised, the graduate team in HR made efforts to schedule in time with interns and grads to promote networking which was great. We had various workshops throughout the placement that were very helpful and gave us insight into business ambitions (long-term objectives) of the company and enabled us to provide our input.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • They invested in us greatly, from brand new touch-screen laptops, to development days, presentation skills coaching session, knowledge sharing sessions and other networking events.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Future prospects are very appealing, the rotations will provide a well-rounded graduate scheme experience and it is clear to see from the graduates currently on the scheme that they are enjoying whatever programme they are on.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • It was slightly hard to get people to join in social activities as this was the first full-time job experience for many of them so they were 'too tired' to come out or participate in events organised amongst students.

    2/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • We were based in Egham , which has London prices but since we didn't have to pay for accommodation - the salary paid was more than enough to cover costs.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • There is an Atik in Windsor, most people went to central at the weekends for clubs or bars.

    2/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Yes we had a HR pub quiz and various team/placement socials.
