    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I enjoyed the audit work I completed and I felt like I was able to contribute to the team I was working on. The people I worked with were friendly and were able to help me when required. I found the exposure to different companies useful and I feel I left the business with a good understanding of how KPMG operates.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • I received many thank you's for work I completed for colleagues and got to know a lot of the people I was working with. However, I do feel communication around the scheduling for interns could have been better. Including providing better transparency for movements around jobs so Interns did not feel they were being replaced for personal reasons.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • The buddy scheme was of great use to have support throughout the internship. I felt I was able to ask and be provided with further guidance from my buddy and did not feel a nuisance. Everyone I asked questions to regarding work I was completing was very supporting and able to assist.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I feared before the internship not having an accountancy based degree would be disadvantageous but I was supported to learn the necessary skills. Having the experience of working in these areas has provided me with great knowledge and an insight into the career which will be useful for both my studies and career planning.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • The structure could be improved and the interns could have been provided with more details regarding what their 4 weeks would involve. It would also have been useful to have been provided with additional tasks to complete for when there was no work within your team available to you. It felt like the staff were not given much support regarding what the vacation students done and so were left to their own interpretations of what was appropriate.

    2/5

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • A great place to work and learn; everyone I met seemed positive and was enjoying working for the company. I had a great group of interns who I was working with who provided great support and fun during the duration of the insight. More office based socials may have been better to feel more involved in the whole office.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • We were provided with sufficient training in regard to ethics and independence on our induction. We had many modules to complete online throughout the duration of the internship. Through talking to current graduates we were able to gain an insight into the training and development available to them on the graduate scheme. More training in regard to audit may have been useful at the beginning of the programme.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • I feel I have a greater understanding of Audit work I would be required to complete as part of a full time role. However, due to the time period of the internship it is hard to gauge what it would be like to work full time during the busy season.

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • 4/5

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • The content was very valuable to give an insight into working at a Big4 firm. I was able to get a grasp of the firms corporate culture and the daily running's of the business. Through talking to current graduates I was able to understand the progression available in the firm providing further details of the career path.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • I was paid fairly through the whole internship on a comparable level to other interns I knew in different firms. I received expenses claims for lunches whilst on-site which I thought was very generous. Expenses claims for transport and accommodation were also available for the induction and social event which took place out of town.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • 3/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • 3/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • Through the duration of the internship I was no aware of any activities ongoing outside of work. It would have been nice to be invited to events that were on going or to have awareness of what is available. However, the interns I worked with were very proactive in organising social events amongst ourselves.
