The Role
Great way to spend a summer!
The short-term nature makes it difficult to fully connect with colleagues, but still, everyone is very respectful and kind.
Trusted and given a fair amount of autonomy over how I complete my work, with ample support when needed.
Investment banking is, by nature, highly demanding.
As much as one could handle, within the constraints of being a short-term employee.
Professional skills are always valuable!
The Company
Very positive and energetic, never a dull moment! Overall, truly excellent.
UBS is a Swiss bank and thus, incredibly well organized. Without a doubt one of the most professional, seamless internship experiences I've ever had, from an organization perspective.
There was a fair amount of upfront training, but after that was completed, training and development was largely at the discretion of line managers and only limited by individual ambition.
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
UBS seems to give out more graduate offers than other competitors, but this is of course based on performance.
The Culture
Very lively and well connected! The people I met during my internship are individuals whom I will keep in touch with well into the future.
London is an expensive city and the middle of the financial district (or more generally, the City), is even more costly, both in terms of food and drink, as well as accommodation.
This is not an internship placement that you would accept for the nightlife.
There were a number of bank-wide events, but a limited number (if any) opportunities to do things outside of work, largely because of the demands of investment banking.
