The Role
I have thoroughly enjoyed my placement. The placement and intern network is large and tightly knit. I've learnt a lot whilst doing work that the company will actually use.
I feel very valued. My team have always been open and willing to help and, in turn, I learnt very quickly. It didn't take long before I received distinct roles that I would be called on. The team is social and always up for a chat. Not once did I feel unwelcome or out of place
My team and manager see the benefit of me being here but also of me learning as much as I can. I feel valued and encouraged to progress into areas I enjoy. I've been given the flexibility to invest more time into areas I have more interest in. On top of this, HR have organised talks with managers across the company for us to hear their story and ask advice
There's always something to do. If one particular day I don't have very much to do, I have the option of talks and seminars (almost every day) and online courses. Occasionally I will have to come in early or work a little late, but that is mainly due to the extra-curricular work that you are encouraged (but not forced) to take on
I've been given a range of tasks with varying responsibility. Some projects I lead and others I simply participate. No matter what the job is, I'm trusted to get the work done and do so fairly autonomously. If I have any questions I'm encouraged to ask
We are encouraged to use internal and external training tools. I have enrolled on multiple Coursera courses and UBS MyCampus courses, learning more about the industry and developing my industry skills.
The Company
Friendly and welcoming. Everyone is willing to chat and most of them offer shadowing opportunities for you to learn in more detail what their role entails
There is a large cohort of interns and placement students and so the on-boarding process is well organised and fun. The actual placement is organised with clear roles, whilst still being flexible enough to get involved in new projects
With free access to Coursera (external online learning), UBS MyCampus (internal online learning), optional lectures, seminars and small meet-and-greets, at no point have I ever felt like I shouldn't be learning or progressing. The firm clearly sees the benefit of us developing our skills with the potential of us returning.

I see myself at the company and the potential career prospects are incredible and within reach. There's great lateral mobility in the company so that you can more between departments and sectors if you are willing to learn
The Culture
I get along with the other placement and intern students very well. We go for drinks a couple of times a week, gym and weekend events. There's about 150 intern and placement students so you're bound to find someone you get along with
It's central London... not much you can do about that. But you're earning more than enough for it not to stop you form doing anything
Great bars, cafes, restaurants and a few clubs. A quick tube ride and you can be anywhere you want. Spoiled for choice!
London's great for anything and you're within an hours range of anywhere with the tube
