Internship Review

I thoroughly enjoyed the whole internship as the 6 weeks allowed you to really get involved with your team. I was never bored and given plenty of work to do, which is very important for enjoyment during a work placement/internship. The whole team was also very welcoming and an approachable group of people.

I felt extremely valued by the team I was working with. This was demonstrated by actually being given projects, and my own work to get stuck into. I was expected to complete it on time to an appropriate standard, which made me feel that they trusted by abilities to get the task done.

I was given all the support that you would need during an internship, by those in my team and by the HR department. My team were always on hand to help with anything I was unsure on, such as using excel and ringing brokers. The HR department put on workshops once a week to teach us new skills necessary for a career in property.

I was kept busy everyday, and this was largely down to my line manager. She was extremely organised and is one of the first manager's I have had who pre-planned work for me to do before I arrived. This ensured that I was given a number of long projects to complete over the time I was at the company, ensuring that I was never left without something to do.

I was given the correct amount of responsibility during the internship, as I was given a number of projects to complete and when they were completed, someone would always sit down and go through them with me. This ensured that they were sensor checked, whilst also giving me the responsibility to complete them on my own first.

I am studing a Masters in September and knew little about property before the internship. The internship has given me a very good base knowledge before starting my further studies. It will help to relate things such as valuations at university, to what you would be completing in a job environment.

The atmosphere was very mixed as the team I was in did a lot of remote working and hot-desking, which meant that you might be sat next to someone different everyday and on Fridays the office would be half full. However, this also allowed you to significantly expand your network by meeting different people everyday.

The placement was relatively well organised, but would have benefited with a better set up with the line managers. Whilst I had a fantastic line manager who organised a lot of work for me to do, a few others were left with sporadic and disorganised work loads from a variety of different people.

I felt extremely well invested in by the company. The bext examples of this were the head of my team taking 5 interns for breakfast, having read all our CVs. He remembered who had done which work experience and was interested in hearing how we were getting on, and for positive and constructive feedback.

I would be very happy to work here a future job as the company is both wellcoming and an extremely friendly one. The employees are approachable, interesting, dynamic and diverse. We were given a talk by a recent Graduate on the Grad Scheme who gave us an overview of what it involved, and was very encouraging and seems to have a great Grad programme.

There was certainly a great social scene for students and colleagues. They have a number of sports teams which I was invited to be involved in one of them. The teams weekly would do something social either going for a nice lunch on a Friday or doing drinks after work.

The cost of socialising in the area is very expensive, but that is to be expected in the centre of the City of London. The cost of living i.e. buying lunch everyday is also extortionate, but again this would be expected from the area in London. The cost of travel is also expensive but was anticipated.

There are a lot of good pubs offering a good variety.

There were plenty of opportunities to get involved with activities outside of work, but was something that you either need to be told about/ invited to join.
