Intern Review

The internship has been extremely rewarding. I was appointed to the Capital Markets Portfolio Investment team where I had the chance to fully contribute to the projects they had on hand. I was trusted with relevant work and although some days hours were quite long and some of the work tedious, it was necessary to get a clear understanding of the market.

As everywhere, you will feel more valued by some than by others. Nonetheless, in general, people at C&W value your work and committmend if you show passion to learn and progress. At the end of the day, most of the supervisors went through the same sort of internship, which makes them feel related to your current situation and aspirations.

From day 1 my line manager and the team leader, dedicated a great amount of time to make sure I understood the team's way of doing, organization and roles. That way I was able to get up to speed fast enough to start positively contributing early and to be able to learn as much as possible

While accounting on a daily basis will not make it justice, in general the workload was acceptable and manageble. During the first two weeks of the internship, however, it became very busy, given that most investors go on holidays in August and therefore everything is rushed during July. By the end of the internship, workload diminished and life got easier

Although everything that got done needed to be approved by the partner in the team, I was given plenty of responsibility. Tasks went from updating and/or building databases to building financial models and analayzing portfolio values. I would have maybe liked to get more client exposure, but given the dates, I believe that it was acceptable.

Looking forward to my next steps, I honestly believe that the knowledge gained during the internship and the contacts made will be of great help during my professional career. Real Estate is a small industry and a people's business. Getting to know influential people in the industry was very rewarding.

The atmosphere was great. You could definetly tell that people working at C&W love what they do. They are welcoming, engaging and have a great sense of team work. Overall, my experience was positive, as I felt part of the team from the first day.

The internship is well organized. HR does an amazing job at making sure everything is clear before you start, and during induction day, they got plenty of people from within the organization to provide a clear picture of the different service lines, company standards and targets. In regards to my team, it was a bit less organized given the nature of Capital Markets.

I perceive that we were given quite a great deal of training. Not only we were getting trained on the job, but we were given different speech, negotiation and personal branding trainings. It is nice to see a company investing so much in you, given that you are just an intern.

Future employment prospects with C&W are very appealing. C&W it is the 3rd biggest company in the industry and still, it manages to be able to have a small shop culture, in which partners and lower level employees interact and learn from each other on a daily basis(very flat structure) and everybody pushes and is committed to grow the company and the business lines.

Yes! As previously said, HR does a great job. They got in very nice interns with plenty of ideas to socialize and to get to know each other better. On top of that sport events such as interns vs grads softball matches and others were organized so that we would have the opportunity to socialize with those in the grad scheme.

London is a very expensive city if you are not from the UK. I am from Spain, so on top of the high living costs of the city, my budget was in euros and the exchange kind of hurt. However, the salaray is enough to sustain your expenses during the internship.

Nightlife? I mean.. is London. There are plenty of things to do in London, and nightlife is definetly one of them. Not my thing as I am a day person, but if you look for nice evenings/night clubs, plenty of them.

Yes there were and are. However, as interns, our time here is limited and most of the activities outside work had passed or not happened yet. However, people in the organization are always doing things, from football matches to more chilled evenings at a pub. Overall good!
