The Role
I very much enjoyed work at Willis Towers Watson, the people are all very welcoming and approachable. the on boarding process was well structured and covered everything you needed for the internship. Over the course of the internship numerous social events were held allows the interns to build both a professional and a personal relationship with their colleagues at WTW.
I feel like I was a valued member of the team from the onset. We were all given pieces of work to so that were important to the firm such as helping on client projects and undertaking industry research. I meeting our questions were valued and suggestions always taken into account.
All interns are paired with a buddy/mentor who is generally 2/3 years older than you. this buddy meets with you regularly so that you can talk about the work you are doing, ask for advice and learn more about the career and the industry. You also have a line manager who is also there to give you help and support and will track your professional development and highlight areas for improvement.
For me it was the perfect balance of work and the type of work was also very varied. I had the opportunity to get involved with client projects as well as internal ones on a variety of topics. this allowed to to gain a large amount of exposure to the insurance industry in a relatively short amount of time. There was a sizable workload as a result of the variety of projects, and as a result time management was vital.
We were given a large amount of responsibility throughout the internship. I was fortunate to be able to travel to the client site on multiple occasions over the course of the internship with a few other team members. Having the opportunity to have that amount of client exposure and work on live projects is generally very rare for an intern.
I have developed my excel data analysis and visualization skills through working with power BI and large data sets. I have also gained substantial regulatory knowledge on solvency II and IAIS. This will help me substantially in my degree studies as we used Excel and R heavily and it will also help me after in my career as I have more commercial awareness.
The Company
The atmosphere in the office is generally friendly and lively, from 9-5pm people are very busy and working hard. There is always a hard working atmosphere with people on calls and in meetings. On Fridays there is generally a group outing for a meal and/or social activity after work as well.
The internship was very well organised with the following: - Induction training on office systems and processes - Software training on WTW developed software as well as third party such as Excel. - Insurance industry training and talks for business leaders at WTW. - Numerous work social events. - Mid and end of internship reviews One thing I would change is before the internship starts I would provide a syllabus of reference reading and key information that would be handy to know on the internship so that the interns can prepare before joining.
The firm invested significantly in our personal development with consultants and senior leadership taking a strong interest in how we are doing and how we are finding our time here. We also had a talk on the support available for all of the graduates, going over the study days and funding available.

The career prospects with WTW are very appealing. the amount invested in professional development in graduates and the work life balance as well as the type of work I will be doing are all very appealing aspects of the career. However we don't find out if we get the graduate conversion until a couple weeks after the internship.
The Culture
Yes, all of the interns in the departments are friends with each other and we all regularly go out for a drink after work and take lunch breaks together as well. All of the interns are very much willing to help each other out with work and understanding technical details regarding the intern projects.
As the office is situated in the city of London socializing after work is relatively expensive. however the internship compensation is
