The Role
Found the internship very exciting and intellectually stimulating. Worked with latest AWS technologies and was exposed to various software development work flows and development methodologies. Received hands on experience in software development and networked with fellow interns and graduates. Also had regular learning and training sessions for personal development at workplace.
People recognized me for the work that I have done and acknowledged it. People also did appreciate that you have a lot to learn and guided and mentored me throughout which was very good for my personal development. My manager was very supportive and let me take responsibility to deliver tasks.
Barclays has an open management work culture where you can reach out to almost everyone around you and discuss problems and issues. People adhere to Barclays's values and go above and beyond to support and help you in your job. You are allowed to set up meetings with 4 different Managing directors/Directors to learn more from their experience.
I kept pretty busy all throughout the internship. Every morning I had daily stand up meetings every morning. Project delivery task was challenging yet rewarding which I really liked. Also I was given the opportunity to take part in a lot of personal development sessions which helped me develop as a person.
I was given good amount of responsibility throughout the internship. my manager enabled me to own the task and encouraged me to analyse and make decisions myself which gave me a real insight into actually working as a full time employee in the company. I was also given responsibility to research and recommend better solutions.
The internship enabled me to get hands on experience in software development and enabled me to learn about new recent AWS cloud based technologies to provide solutions. I also received exposure to various areas of Barclays's technology business. The internship also helped me identify areas of improvements and work towards them.
The Company
The general atmosphere was very good in my office at Barclays. Everyone was very friendly and very supportive. They were always willing to help as long as I asked for help. People appreciate and valued the work that I put in on the project. I really enjoyed working at Barclays.
The intern program was very well organized in my opinion. We had lots of training sessions all throughout which was very good for my personal development. In addition, it also helped me understand Barclays's wealth and technology business area. The internship was also packed all throughout with lots of networking sessions.
Barclays does invest a lot for personal training and development of the workforce. My manager encouraged me to take responsibility for the project and deliver independently which helped me gain hands on experience in the technology area. I was also encouraged to meet with various MD and directors in order to learn from their experiences as well
The Culture
Glasgow is a great place to live in terms of costs. it is miles cheaper in comparison to London. Accommodation rent was very reasonable. Everyday day to day expenses are also very reasonable. In addition, Glasgow also has lots of clubs and socializing opportunities which was very good. People are also generally very friendly
There were lots of opportunities to get involved in Barclays's initiatives to add value to the community it was based in throughout the internship. I had the opportunity to get involved in Barclays's coding club is a community club within Barclays to provide an insight into coding and technology to yound people in the community.
