The Role
I absolutely loved my year at RCI. The placement experience was absolutely amazing and the company are perfect for anyone looking for an internship. You are well respected by your colleagues, given important tasks and other amazing opportunities to make the most out the whole experience.
Immediately I was given responsibility in a project as soon as I started RCI FS. I felt like I settled in to the team effortlessly and felt respected by everyone in the team. My department had various team bonding activities which I think really helped.
Throughout the process I was given support from anyone within the business. I could rely on guidance from my manager if needed and the whole business were supportive to all the interns if we had any questions or needed help.
I was never short of anything to do. But within that industry some days I was really busy whilst others were a lot more relaxed. As I say, that’s just the nature of the business but I always had something to could do to help put.
I was given a lot of responsibility towards the latter half of my placement. Although I had responsibility at the beginning of the placement, when I was comfortable with the work sometimes I feel I should have been allowed to progress faster.
I can imagine the transferable skills I learnt throughout this year will benefit me massively in my final year at university. Not only that though, the skills I developed will be useful for me in day to day life in general.
The Company
The atmosphere in the office was warm and friendly. It varied from department to department but regardless all of them were friendly.
I would say the process for interns was very good. We had our induction for a few weeks which included handover from the previous set of interns which was really helpful. Then throughout the year we would receive training and I would say the whole process was well organised.
The company really invested in me and this was done in various ways. Throughout the year I had training modules to help me. Alongside this, they developed my personal skills by allowing me to present and contribute in meetings and this has really benefitted me.

If you perform well on the placement programme you are likely to be asked to come back on the graduate programme. The company values youth and tries to nurture your talents.
The Culture
Luckily RCI has a big group of interns so there was an opportunity to do socials. Not only the interns though there are opportunities to do social things within your department. We had a whole company Christmas party and also a department Christmas party.
I had a house share with a few of the other interns and Rickmansworth is quite expensive to live. Of course going out into London is also expensive as well. We ended up living further out from Rickmansworth to make it more manageable.
Rickmansworth isn’t the liveliest of towns to be honest. However, there is always opportunity to go out in other places nearby - London the most obvious option.
There was opportunities to get involved outside of work hours in things you just have to throw yourself into things. I ended up going to the weekly run club and also played five a side football with colleagues at RCI.
