The Role
I really enjoyed my time at EY. I was lucky enough to be on client site for the entire internship, where I worked in the operations team and learnt about one of the core financial service sectors. The work was challenging yet interesting and the team were very friendly and very supportive.
My senior manager told me that "I had added value to our team" and not just been an observer. This meant a lot and confirmed that I was part of the team. I was delegated quite a variety of tasks to do from process mapping, budget, Risk logs and spans of control analysis.
My team were extremely supportive throughout the programme. They provided ample guidance on tasks to get things done. As well as this if I was unsure or struggling to complete something they would provide me with support and take time to explain how to go about the task. As welll as this they provided feedback, which allowed my work to progress and develop as the internship continued.
I was generally quite busy. I had little time to spend doing the online courses and other learning but this was probably due to being on client site. Having a variety of client meetings each day meant time was pressured in completing tasks to deadlines too but I enjoyed this pressure.
I was asked to do process mappings with a senior consultant (based from client meetings ) the budget with the support of a manager. Generally I was given responsibility to produce work for the client and for the senior leadership team of the client. (produced slides for senior leadership team). This work was always reviewed by a senior member of the team to ensure it was to good enough quality.
Although the work done in the financial services sector has little connection to my engineering degree, the skills with excel and PowerPoint will definitely help for all kinds of work and are extremely beneficial. The soft consulting skills I learnt will hopefully help me in my future career and set me in good stead to develop these further.
The Company
I was on client site., so the atmosphere is a little different because of the location. Generally, quite a professional atmosphere because we were focused on the project and its deliverables. However, the team were friendly and we all got along very well so it was a fun place to work.
I was assigned to a project immediately and was set tasks and work from day 1 on site. I was always busy. The programme also had partner breakfasts and an intern social for networking. I think within EY if you want to increase your network, it is down to you to do this. I did this and met a variety of people from programme management, operations and technolofy consulting so I utilised this opportunity.
By having the opportunity to talk to partners and a variety of senior managers showed to me that the company do care about interns experiences and us. Being provided positive feedback and development points has shown me what I'm doing well and what I can work on to become even better. The fact they provided valuable feedback shows that they invested in me.
Sports and Social Club
Company Parties/Events
The graduate scheme is an appealing prospect for me given the rotation concept. You would be able to learn about a variety of sectors and help make a decision into which sector I'd like to specialise in.
The Culture
The interns all got along really well with each other and met each other in the evenings frequently.
London is an expensive place to work and live but it is very fun place to work and live. Lots to do, places to eat and drink, definitely worth the cost.
A huge variety of bars and pubs in Central London which are expensive but very cool.
Yes Variety of trainings to take part in and learn more about. Variety of EY sports club to join.
