The Role
I really enjoyed this internship. There was a lot of opportunity to try what felt like real work and get stuck in to what the department is all about. The department (Technology Risk) were happy to help us learn and assist us throughout.
The rest of the team were happy to give time to help us where we may not necessarily have understood something, and take time out to answer questions. This meant we were able to complete real work and feel like we were a valued member of the department.
At all times, it felt like management.would.go.out of their way to assist in all tasks and ensure we were never at a point where we were struggling and floundering. A support system was in place at a times.
Within the first and last weeks the quantity of work slowed, but somewhat understandably. Throughout the middle of the internship there was work to do at all times and I found myself extremely busy.
At first it felt like the whole internship was daunting, with it being do different to anything done before. But having spent some time learning, I found we were given real responsibility in handling important tasks and attending client meetings. Whilst these were reviewed for obvious reasons, it was a real taste of the kind of work a consultant may get.
I feel whilst the team skills learnt will definitely assist me in everything I do, the skills learnt are not that applicable to work done outside this sector. However, that's understandable given the nature of this work.
The Company
It felt like work always was always there to be done, but there wasn't too much pressure and breaks could be taken when needed.
It was very structured, but felt at times a little too much like we were sitting there listening to people talk for hours on end. Especially in the first week with so much induction.
Managers were willing to take time and explain complex tasks to us, and we were able to shadow directors. This was a valuable experience.
Flexi Time
Company Parties/Events
It seems like there's a lot of opportunity for progression if work is done and there's a good amount of flexibility to do what we want.
The Culture
There were many socials and drinks. Although somewhat lacking in non-drinking events, which may put off some people.
London is very expensive. Having lived here, it was not as much of a burden. Travel is still expensive however.
Whilst expensive, there were lots of places for after work socials around the London bridge office.
There was a CSR day, helping the community. And several socials.
