The Role
It was a really fun six weeks - you join in a huge cohort so the social side is fantastic. The work is interesting and varied, and there are so many opportunities to chat to people and find out about different career options both within and outside of the company.
Everyone was ridiculously friendly, the only reason this isn't higher is that clearly as an intern with no background in financial services I couldn't really make any valuable contributions until later in the program.
I was given so much support and guidance, and everyone was happy for me to ask as many stupid questions as I needed to understand the work they wanted me to do. It's definitely down to you as the intern to ask for more/less responsibility and communicate what kind of work you're interested in, but if they know what you're looking for they'll find a way to make it happen.
Sometimes the work got a bit hectic and sometimes I had very little to do, but again it's a case of communicating your capacity to your team.
I would have loved to have a bit more responsibility but as I had very little experience I understand why this wasn't possible.
The skills I developed will absolutely be useful in any career going forward in terms of technical expertise in PowerPoint and Excel, but even more so in terms of soft skills such as communication, team work, working to a deadline, balancing personal and professional commitments and navigating office politics, all of which are fundamental skills in the working world.
The Company
My team was really fun and sociable, but understandably as deadlines got closer the atmosphere became much more professional.
It was very well set up, but it should have been communicated earlier that we had the power to shape the work that we did.
We were given access to all the learning materials we could want, including Udemy and language courses, but unfortunately there was very little time to actually use any of them!
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
It's all based on feedback from your team and your counsellor, who have a roundtable to decide wether or not you get a grad offer afterwards.
The Culture
There was a great social scene because there were so many of us.
London is incredibly expensive but the night life is definitely worth it.
Really good night life, but it is really quite expensive
The activities were mainly team based rather that company or service line-wide.
