The Role
I was able to learn a lot from my internship. Everyone was more than willing to help answer any questions that I had. EY arranged on boarding events for the first week which helped me to feel at home in the office. I'd definitely recommend this internship to anyone remotely interested.
I felt very valued by my colleagues. They made me feel very welcome. Colleagues answered any questions I had, as well as being more than willing to offer me their time by going on coffee breaks. The values of EU are very strong and reflected in every employee. I was very happy here.
When you join EY on an internship you are automatically allocated a buddy (someone of a similar age to you who recently joined the firm), a Councillor (someone who's been at the firm a while and at a manager position or above) and a career Councillor to discuss where to go after your internship. This was all very beneficial.
My managers wanted me to make the most of my internship and aware of me working long hours. At times the senior manaher would even approach me and ask when I was going home if I stayed late some nights. My working day was from around 9 until 5.30 ish.
My project whilst on the internship was for a year end audit, meaning my work directly impacted the financial statements the client would publish. This meant I was approaching the clients finance team if I had any questions. Something I didn't expect. I was treated just like any other junior employer at EY.
The skills I learnt were all completely new to me. From learning how to use advanced excel formulas to accounting methods. Don't worry if you've never done any accounting before, neither had I and people understand that and are more than willing to take the time to teach you. I'm going to use the things I learnt for the rest of my career!
The Company
I was based on client site for most of my internship. The atmosphere created by the team whilst we were there was very welcoming. Often the senior manager would bring in cakes for us all or take us to the pub. Whildt in EY's offices the hot desking approach to working took some getting used to but I enjoyed it in the end.
From start to end the internship was well organised. For the first week we had 3 on boarding days to get to know fellow interns more and understand what we'd be doing. During the internship several events including a social with interns and a partner breakfast were organised. We also had a leaving event on the final day.
EY was very invested in me. They provide all interns with laptops that have access to hundreds of learning courses so that if I had any skills I wanted to develop (ie excel), I could use these resources. I was also helped by all of the managers around me who invested their time.
Flexi Time
Company Parties/Events
The opportunities available with EY are truly endless. If you want to work in a different department for the day then you can just ask someone and they'll be more than willing to meet up for a coffee and try to help you. The training at EY is also one of the best in the industry for grads.
The Culture
Socialising with other interns was promoted by EY. They arranged several socials throughout the internship. Including going to a bowling alley, crazy golf and also going to the pub. As well as all this you were encouraged to make group chats with other interns so that you could keep in touch after the internship.
