    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I had a fantastic experience with my team and I had a lot to learn. Everyone made sure I had work to do, and I got to shadow a partner which was an experience I never thought I'd get. I wish there was more structure to the internship, with the work that was assigned to interns.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I had an exceptional team, 'the best team' in transaction diligence actually, and everyone helped me integrate well. I was invited to everyone social, and they made sure I felt comfortable in every one of them. Everyone took our time to explain basic concepts to me, and I felt really valued

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • A director gave me a lot of work to do, and she made sure I was constantly busy doing stuff for her. I also got the opportunity to shadow a partner, and attend client meetings with him and sit it on calls with him. He took out time from his busy schedule to explain the basic principles to me and I felt very valued.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was mostly busy , cause my buddy and counselor tried their best to give me work to do. However transaction diligence is such a sub service line that it's easier to get in to a project in the start than later on, and there weren't many projects starting when I joined, so I still had limited work to do.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given little responsibility in the start, as expected, but as I networked more and gained the trust of my colleagues, I started receiving more work. I started off with creating an abbreviations slide to making a partner a briefing pack about businesses to prep him for a meeting.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I study economics, and my work was primarily based in accounting. Hence there wasn't much of a link apart from the Mathematical skills required for both of them. However this internship has given me a clear idea about the fact that I would like to work in this Industry as it is really engaging.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The office was always buzzing with banter and good talk. We had lots of socials and everyone was really talkative and friendly. The office vibe made me want to come into work everyday and it made me very happy with the work life balance. It was a great atmosphere to work in.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The student recruitment team planned the internship really well in terms of giving the interns all the possible resources to make the most of it. However I feel like each team could have had a project planned for an intern before they came to make sure that we had work to do from the first day itself.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • A partner and a director invested hours in explaining to me the basics of what they were doing and why they were doing it. In terms of money, that is a lot of time that could have been spent charging out clients. I felt very valued at this firm during my internship.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • 4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • If I do choose to work there, EY will sponsor my ICAS degree for 3 years as I work part time and study part time. That itself is a testament to how much EY wants to invest in its employees. Furthermore the brand name is great which looks very good on the CV

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There was a couple of socials organised by the student recruitment team which made me meet other interns and talk about my experiences with them. I learn a lot in these socials, especially about what I can do better. We had a pizza social, and a mini golf social which was great fun.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Being in central London near London Bridge , everything was very expensive. A pint of beer was about 4 pounds and eating out was very expensive. Having said that, your pay is reflective of the cost of living, and hence EY interns in London were paid more than other regional interns.

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Again, being in central London, there's a lot of buzzing clubs and bars near the area. We used to go to bersmondey bar and kitchen twice a week because of the proximity of it to our office. Waterloo is also nearby where there a great number of restaurants and a good nightlife.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • EY has a football team that played nearby every Monday which was a great way to get to know more people and also get to do a hobby. EY also organises the 3 peak challenge which is subsidized and again a great way to meet other people from the company.
