The Role
I enjoyed getting a taste of proffesional life and life in a big 4 company. Especially learning how to handle professional relationships. I wasn't as keen on my service line (FS Tax) but had the opportunity to try a couple others, although it can be hard having that conversation with your counsellor.
I was treated like one of them and guided throughout. No question was a silly question and I was actively involved with the work of recut grads up to directors and partners. I was made part of the team from the get go and socials early on helped me integrate more naturally.
I was given constant support, even if I wasn't asking for it at the time they'd check up on me to see how I was doing. As I mentioned I found t harder to discuss potentially moving service line later on, especially since initial conversations with the career counsellors made it seem like I needed to sell myself in Tax first.
It was a real mix. Sometimes it'd feel like you had nothing and so you'd ask for a lot more work, then you'd find yourself inundated with work and would be working flat out. You wanted to have work though, it's got boring and days got a lot longer if not.
Sometimes the job I did felt slightly forced, as in they were simply giving me work for works sake. Although I did get involved in a big project at the end of the internship, helping make a request for proposal worth a lot to my department and my bosses and I could tell my help was valued.
Less so in my degree but it'll certainly help with my career overall. Giving me a lot to talk about in job applications and also knowing how to conduct myself better in assessment centre situations. It's definitely made me a lot more confident, in particular in a professional environment. Communication has benefitted most.
The Company
It was a very well run operation. It had clearly had a lot of prep put into it. We maybe could've had more socials organised as an office but other than that it was all good. Having the big starting and ending events was also nice to have to begin and wrap up the internship.
I was always given difffernt work to do and a lot of time was spent teaching me all of the new concepts even when it slowed down my busy seniors. I was also given the opportunity to try new service lines to give me a new perspective on the work ey does.

Working from home
I'd love to continue to work for EY but I don't think I'd want to continue in the same service line to location unfortunately. I didn't put enough thought into my service line and I chose my location simply to be home over summer... not really the best motivations to make a decsison.
The Culture
With the other interns one hundred percent. We always had lunch together and went out a couple weekends. My work team was very small (five of us) and also all quite a lot older so didn't gel quite as well. It was nice going out for a final meal with them but it could've come sooner.
I was living at home so wasn't a great way of assessing the cost of living. Overall the city is relatively expensive but not as bad as london. Socialising is cheap if you know where to look but the places directly around the offices was quite pricey and most after work events were there.
