The Role
Overall my experience at EY was a very positive one. Although the application process was relatively long the reward was worth it. After the first week the workload increased to a busy but enjoyable amount. The job also provides the interns with a large amount of responsibility. There are also a decent amount of social events
I felt extremely welcomed into my team, even though they were all extremely talented people they were very down-to-earth too. The structure of ey also allows for interns to work with people who are very high ranking. The hot seating method also means that you get to work around different people each day
This is very dependant on the particular supervisor however all bar one of the people I worked alongside gave very good guidance as to the work I was performing. Furthermore many took a great deal of their time to explain the purpose of the activities we were doing. Which was extremely helpful especially since I am not from an accounting background.
Depending on the season the business appears to differ greatly. As when it was before the half year sign off date I had alot of work all the time and it was very good. However directly after HY I had a few days of minimal work. However this is not really an issue as ey provided e learning platform access for such an event
I was given a great deal of responsibility in my everyday work. However the pressure was not too great as all work goes through an extensive review process so it means small mistakes can be picked up by someone with fresh eyes. This is probably a very team dependant thing.
The skills learned here will certainly stay with me for a very long time. The inter personal skills, particularly client facing tasks and inter team tasks is an experience that many students do not get alot of chance to experience however these are extremely important in the modern working world
The Company
The atmosphere in the office is not something I can comment on as I was at clientside for a large portion of the internship. However any time I was there it seemed very chill, there are table tennis tables and foosball tables in the kitchen to relax at lunch and spare times
This was a well planned placement compared to other I have experienced. My only complaint would be that the buddy program that had been setup was effectively pointless as most of the buddies were away to Icas after the first few ways and as such most people did not really get to know them.
EY invested alot in intern development as mentioned they provide access to many eLearning platforms for downtime. Furthermore and more importantly this is a gateway into the graduate scheme in which you will become a chartered accountant over the course of the next 3 years, which is an invaluable thing in the modern world.

The largest insentive of a job at ey is the chartered accountant program that they put people through as it garuntees that even if you do not enjoy the job you will leave with a qualification that is vastly more difficult to achieve without the support of a large organization.
The Culture
There was a good relationship with other interns. Our group went out for drinks every Friday which were often partly paid for by ey. Furthermore I have met many people who I plan to be great friends with for the future even if we do not get a grad offer.
The social aspect was definitely very good as there were many wetherspoons in the area and this allowed for a cheap place for people to meet for a few hours. I did not live in the city which I worked in so cannot comment on the true price of living.
Nightlife was good each Friday we went out together. Between edi and Glasgow there were plenty of clubs to chose from and the train between them is on 40minutes allowing people to commute between and furthermore to communicate with others in the Glasgow office to widen our networking circle before leaving uni.
There was not any outside of work oppertunities offered that I was however I was not in the office very often so this may have been a different case for those interns. However due to my closeness to my team I was invited to play cricket with them on many occasions
