The Role
People were great but the work could be very tedious at times. Sometimes there was also a lack of work. There was always a great variety of social events which were normally well attended. The people at EY clearly want the interns to enjoy themselves so try very hard to make the experience worthwhile.
Everyone was incredibly friendly but there are so many people in the office that it is hard to remember everyone’s name! Your opinion is definitely valued even from the very start and people are always open to listening and responding to what you have to say. This makes you feel valued.
Counsellors are assigned to each intern which is very useful and they are very helpful. They go above and beyond to make sure you are well looked after and sort any issues out very promptly. The buddy role is also very important as you feel you can ask them literally anything.
Very often there was little work for interns as the jobs are designed to be done by a specific size team. There were long periods where you are left to your own devices which get gets very boring quite quickly. Although if you are proactive and ask you will normally get something.
Even on the first day we were trusted to work on client files which was great. After only a few weeks you are assigned sections to complete of the audit for a huge listed client which is fantastic experience. You can always ask for help but it is good to feel like you are responsible for something.
Extremely happy that I have experienced what auditors do and the level of precision which everything is tested. The auditors get a very detailed view of how the business operates. Skills will likely be more useful beyond my studies as I do not study accounting but it is still useful.
The Company
The office atmosphere was one of the stand out take aways from the internship. Everyone is incredibly friendly and seem interested in getting to know the interns on a more personal level, not just as work mates. It is slightly odd how everyday there are different people around however as people are away at client sites
The placement was incredibly well organised with clients assigned to you from the get go. However some of the jobs are not set up for interns so you may have very little work. The work available will Probably not be at the right level so you may end up with nothing
EY seem very keen to invest in their employees. They are also very accommodating with flexible working and allow you to focus on other passions outside of work. The firm also has lots of courses to improve your knowledge of various things. They are well funded so are normally fun.
Company Parties/Events
Good
The Culture
There are socials most fridays and they are normally well attended with drinks very often paid for. There are also trips out to plays or events which means there is something for everyone. People are also always keen for drinks after work which helps build a fun atmosphere amongst the team.
High
Class.
There are office sports teams which you are always encouraged to get involved in. The social committee also work very hard to organise a variety of events so that there is something for everyone. They are quite well funded too so the events they put on are normally very good.
