The Role
The team made sure I was always involved in all socials and made me feel welcome. Although work was not always available, when I was assigned some the team always made sure I was fully aware of requirements. Any work was never too difficult and was explained thoroughly by the team.
The team invited me to all socials, were friendly and welcoming. I would love to work with them again, more like friends than colleagues! As my team was split between London and Birmingham I was introduced to the wider team who were all so happy to meet me and very friendly.
Whenever I had questions it was never too much bother to ask and all my queries were listened to and spoken about. My counsellor was a great help in listening to my questions about EY in general as well as my managers always making time for me regardless of work load.
At the beginning of my internship I did not have much work to do as my service line was in a quiet period. However this gave me the opportunity to learn more about the company and explore other departments for more work. I got busy towards the end but never had too much.
Even though I could not lead projects within my service line due to my lack of technical knowledge, I was given responsibility of smaller tasks which contributed to the work as a whole. I took responsibility of the fundraising project for the office and this was great fun for me to be involved with all groups in the office.
The skills I learnt will be extremely useful for my career after my degree. I have learnt invaluable skills which you cannot be learnt at university. I am extremely grateful for the summer internship as it has helped me develop transferable skills which can be used in all career paths.
The Company
Everyone in my office was extremely friendly and willing to talk regardless of how busy they were. I made friends across all service lines and even if I did not get chance to speak people they went out of their way to get to know me on a personal level.
Throughout my internship I was unsure on the direction or additions tasks which were required of me. My team organised my workload well however I found the responsibility was upon myself to create opportunities and contact the summer internship team when I was unsure on something as the messages were not displayed to all staff.
My team ensured that any training they could give me or were attending themselves was available to me. I bought it upon myself to discover training courses on the EY platform to further my own knowledge. Most of my training and understanding came from asking questions when I was unsure on work.
Flexi Time
Working from home
I would love to return to EY and more specifically my office. Even though this is not guaranteed there is the possibility that we could be offered a graduate job as a result of the internship and positive feedback. This would be a great opportunity difficult to get without the internship.
The Culture
My interns and I made great friendships which led to us having our own socials outside of the office and I am sure we will remain friends after. I also attended socials with my team almost every week in London and Birmingham which was great to network and get to know more people.
Birmingham is a great area for nightlife from night clubs, restaurants, bars, cafes, etc. There is plenty of opportunities to find something to go and do outside of the office. Birmingham is a great city with an endless amount of activities to do after work has finished on the evening.
My team had many socials which I could get involved in and was always invited me to. I have also been invited to socials now that my placement has finished and I look forward to keeping in touch with my team as they have been so kind throughout the internship process.
