Intern Review

I have really enjoyed my internship at Cushman & Wakefield. Interning in the Marketing department gave me the opportunity to rotate through different functions, giving me a well-rounded understanding of the sector and the chance to meet lots of people. Everyone was really welcoming and inclusive and always made an effort to invite me to things, whether it was work related or outside of work socials.

During my internship, I felt really valued by my colleagues especially those working in a team which is deadline-orientated. My colleagues often thanked me for my help and my manager also mentioned that some of my colleagues had approached her to say that they have really appreciated my help. It was really nice to hear that my contribution was valued and didn’t go unnoticed.

I was given a lot of support by my managers and colleagues. I feel that most of my colleagues really wanted me to get a lot out of my internship and tried their best to give me a hands on experience. This was really helpful as the skills that I have developed on this internship will be transferrable to any jobs in the future. Some of my colleagues also took their time to ask me about my future plans and offered me their own personal advice and guidance. I am extremely grateful to all my colleagues at Cushman & Wakefield that took their time to support me.

As I rotated each week through different functions, how busy I was varied on the department I was with. For example, my time with the bids team was quite busy as they work in a fast paced, deadline-oriented environment but my time with the events team was a lot quieter due to the events calendar. This was good though as it provided me with a good balance.

During my placement I was given a lot of responsibility which was nice to be trusted. It was good as it gave me insight to what the real world of work will be like after I graduate next year. Even though I was given responsibility to get on with tasks, my managers/colleagues always made it clear that if I had any questions or found the work too difficult, that I should just let them know as they were there to support me and help explain things to me.

The skills that I have developed on this internship are invaluable and they will definitely help me in the future as they are transferrable. The intern training was amazing as it helped me develop skills such as presentation skills and public speaking. These are useful as I can apply them at university in my final year.

The atmosphere in the office was always fun and friendly and I have really enjoyed coming to work because of this. This made me feel really comfortable and allowed me to be myself. My colleagues were genuinely interested in getting to know me and it was nice to know them on a personal level too.

The internship was set up really well. It was structured and everything was really organised. As mentioned before, I think that the allocated workshops for intern training were amazing as it made sure that the interns received a well-rounded, comprehensive training. There were also intern events outside of work which were organised which was fantastic as it gave us the opportunity to network. One of the highlights of this internship was the informal lunch with the global president.

In terms of personal training and development, the company invested a lot in me. The managers of the teams sat down with me, one to one, to ask my interests and my future aspirations so that they could tailor my time with their teams to benefit me and do as much learning as possible. This was great as I helped my clarify areas which I would like to pursue after I graduate.

I would love to return to work at Cushman & Wakefield after I graduate as I have really enjoyed my time here and it is clear to me that they are a very forward thinking company. The company culture and working alongside talented professionals is definitely somewhere I would like to work in the future. The support I have received during these 6 weeks has been amazing and makes future employment prospects here even more appealing.

There was a good social scene amongst the other interns and colleagues. The interns had organised networking events with graduates, such as intern vs. grad softball which was great as we got to know each other in a more social environment. The marketing department also had a good social scene. We went out for some lunches and drinks after work and it was really nice as my line manager also attended.

The cost of socialising was quite expensive in the area I worked in but London is expensive in general. My colleagues showed me new places to socialise which were more affordable. I lived at home during the internship so I had to commute everyday which was expensive. Also buying lunch everyday is expensive, so I decided to start bringing my own lunch.

The Bank office, where I was based, was surrounded by lots of nice bars and clubs but unfortunately I didn't get the opportunity to go to any clubs during my time on the internship. However, the atmosphere in the area was always lively, even when we went for drinks after work so I can imagine that the nightlife is the same.

There were not that many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work. The interns made a group chat where we tried to arrange things every week but this was sometimes difficult as we were spread across two offices and had different schedules. I did attend one of the Futures events after work which was really insightful.
