Intern Review

I found the internship to be extremely enjoyable, particularly due to the people I have met. Not only did I make amazing connections within my team, I met up with numerous people throughout the business, and got to know the other interns and graduates very well. The internship has definitely convinced me that M&G would be an amazing place to come back to work after graduation.

Everyone was extremely helpful, and I was never turned down when I asked for some time for a question. As my team was more quiet, we didn't do any activities outside of work, but I was definitely treated like a full member of the team, which I really appreciated considering my lack of experience.

From my supervisor, I definitely received as much support and guidance as I requested and needed, and I was able to approach anyone in the business to ask questions if necessary. However, I wish there had been more formal avenues of support and training that were available through structured training sessions in technicals and so on.

Purely on a work basis, I always had something to do but was never overwhelmed or felt the need to work overtime. Outside of my projects, I took the initiative to speak to people in the business as I could, and we had a lot of organised sessions as part of the internship, meaning that I was always fairly busy.

I received a lot of responsibility in the sense that I had complete ownership of the tasks that I was given, and that these tasks were part of the teams day-to-day work. Although I wasn't able to make as large of an impact as I would have liked, this was more due to my lack of experience going in than a lack of responsibility.

The most valuable skills I developed personally, were definitely the non-technical kind that you can only acquire from first-hand experience in a business. The ability to build and maintain a network, speak with confidence, presentation skills and more, are definitely the biggest things that I got out of the internship.

The atmosphere was quite casual and not stuffy at all, unlike what I expected from a financial institution. The office atmosphere definitely varies somewhat depending on your team and division, but in general tends to be very easygoing and everyone is very approachable and friendly, which is very helpful as an intern.

There generally weren't any organisational issues that I noticed during the internship, and everything administrative in general, from team, manager, buddy allocation and salary all went smoothly. There wasn't as much structure to the internship as is common in larger internship programmes, but this did mean that anything structured we did do was more intimate and easier to manage.

There were quite a few structured training sessions with people from around the firm, and I appreciated the opportunities to meet and network with senior people and management. I do wish there were more structured training sessions, as is common in larger internship programmes in finance, as it would be helpful in getting more out of the programme.

Post-internship, future employment prospects have definitely become very appealing, due to the atmosphere and culture of the organisation I experienced throughout the internship, as well as the interesting work I was able to be a part of.

Yes, the whole intern cohort became very close regardless of division and team.

It was standard City prices, expensive, but to be expected.

Again, standard City nightlife, pretty good for bars and pubs, but quite expensive.

There was a CSR volunteering day for the interns, and socialising activities.
