    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • It was a really interesting project to be able to work on, 3 RC frame apartment blocks with a car park and roof garden. Gained some really useful experience and every day was different. Plenty of work to do and so were always busy, lots of opportunity to be on site rather than sitting in an office.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • All of the staff both on and off site were polite, friendly and helpful. Was very easy to settle in and everyone was easy to get along with no matter what their job title. Lots of office social events which makes it easy to meet new people.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Was shown around site on the first day by the senior engineer. He was always willing to help and answer any questions I had even when he appeared busy. Other management would always explain tasks clearly and put the effort in to make sure everything was understood. Very supportive team.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Initially a slow start but it didn't take long before I begun to receive more responsibility and were in charge of numerous tasks and roles. This meant that there was rarely nothing to do.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I received a lot of responsibility early on and was trusted to sign off various forms and permits as well as carry out pre-pour checks on my own. Was good to be given that level of trust and independence.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • In terms of studies it makes things much clearer however the obvious advantage of the skills would be for if I pursue a career in contracting where the knowledge of the construction process, necessary checks, reading drawings and being involved in such a project will be immensely helpful.

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • It was very friendly, sociable place.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Very well set up, everything was clear from early on and any information was provided well ahead of the placement commencing. Was provided with lots of contact details early on which I could use to clarify any questions I had.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • They have invested by giving me the opportunity to work for them and gain the experience which I now have. Have also given clear information on graduate schemes and what I would have to do to apply.

    3/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • 2/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • The graduate scheme offered is very good as it gives you a lot of experience in various fields. It also provides the potential of working in various different countries on a wide range of interesting project.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Everyone was very sociable, there were work events such as food and drinks, 5 a side and min golf.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Being in London the cost of living was quite steep. Accommodation was obviously much higher than what I am usually used to as was the cost of socializing but that's just London prices...

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Within the area (Wembley) it was poor but then you can of course get a tube into the centre very easily.

    2/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There are lots of activities in London but it was rather expensive in terms of travel and cost of the activity itself.

    3/5
