The Role
The internship was very well organised by HR, for instance the Speaker Series teleconferences with senior members of the bank, intern events alongside having a support session mid-internship for any relevant discussions or feedback. The team I interned in gave me projects that addressed ongoing, relevant issues and projects, therefore my work was able to add value and be used as a resource even after the end of the internship.
I felt very valued by my team and my voice was always heard, I truly felt part of the team, rather than a temporary intern. I was involved in many meetings, team drinks/events, I definitely felt very included and welcomed. I was frequently asked to share my project work and discoveries, alongside sharing my ideas and thoughts on ongoing issues faced by the team.
I felt very supported and guided during the internship, each intern is assigned a line manager, mentor and buddy to ensure any inquiries or concerns could be addressed at different levels. I had weekly one on one meetings with my line manager to go over my project and catch up on my experience on the internship. I received ongoing support from my buddy, who was always happy to help with any inquiries.
I was given two main projects alongside a small side project in my first week, in which I focused on in the majoirty of my internship. In the last few weeks of the internship, I did a formal presentation on this project to relevant senior leadership in the division. I additionally reguatlroy updated and presented my findings and ideas on my project in team meetings alongside one-on-one meetings. After the formal presentation, I helped my team with ongoing investigation cases and relevant work required - this gave me a in depth understanding of the bank's investigation process and regulatory obligations.
As aforementioned, I was fortunate to be given projects that addressed ongoing concerns and issues facing the team. Therefore I was able to contact different teams globally to understand processes and issues, information I identified would be shared with the team accordingly. Given my project addressed ongoing issues, my project will be continued and used by the team after I leave as well.
I gained a deeper insight not only on the business products, but also how different types of risk mitigated through various controls and processes created by many teams across the bank. I was able to contact collegues located across the US, EU and APAC for my project, this gave me a deeper insight into how a global financial institutions functions as a whole. I additionally gained a high level understanding of the regulatory obligations of regulated financial institutions, most notably on the identification, investigation and prevention of financial crime by the bank.

Firm heavily invests in interns, providing events, speaker series, meetings with HR and other senior leadership members in the bank.

Very appealing, the bank takes on interns to join the graduate scheme. If given the opportunity, I would accept an offer from the bank.
The Culture
Everyone is very friendly, interns met up for drinks outside of organised social events alongside attending HR organised intern events.
London has a high cost of living and socialising, I was aware of this prior joining the internship.
Good, the bank is located very centrally and there are a lot of bars/clubs nearby.
Bank of America is involved in a lot of ESG and charity work, there were many opportunities to get invovled in this events. The Bank also has various sports club, networking and diversity groups that are open to interns joining.
