The Role
I really enjoyed my Internship, you can really see the amount of effort and time that is put into you as an intern.
Everyone made a huge effort to welcome me to the team, they put on team socials and lunches in order for us to get to know as many peopl eon the floor as possible.
My managers arranged weekly catch ups to discuss workload and the content of the projects themselves. The office had a very relaxed approach, so we were encouraged to approach our managers desks with questions whenever neccessary. My managers also put me in contact with other areas of the bank for me to gain a better idea of the bank as a whole, and other departments.
I was given projects at the beginning of each rotation, which gave me a clear deadline. However, due to the weekly catch ups with managers, work could be added or taken away as necessary. With the projects and meetings with other departments, I always felt busy. There were only a few times that I had completed work and was waiting for managers to check this, however due to the time of the placement being the summer holidays, many of the teams were very busy and this was undertsnadable.
This was the most important factor for me regarding the internship. From day one we were given work from different portfolios and actively contributing to the workload of the team. Additionally I actually got a feel for the work I would be doing if I joined full time, which I know isn't the case in all departments. At times I would have meetings with senior management to discuss the current state of the client, and be one of the most knowledgable people on that piece of work. Senior management were very encouraging in terms of listening to your opinon, which I found encouraging.
I study Biomedical Science, therefore the job didn't really map to the skills used in my degree, however it did enhance my excell and analytical skills. It also really helped enhance my finance knowledge, which prioir to the internship was more limited. I now feel more confident in the field that I hope to work within in the future.
The Company
Very relaxed, there was a real emphasis on getting the job done in your time, as opposed to a face time culture. Everyone was very generous with their time, and it was encouraged to go up and speak to people at their desk. Similarly with senior management, they always had their doors open and you were encouraged to pop in if you needed to discuss something. Everyone was very professional but made the office a fun place to be.
It is obvious that a lot of time goes into the Internship both from a HR point of view and the Grad Team in my department. There were lots of training events and social events throughout the summer. Additionally within my department they arranged a rotation of two different desks, giving us the opportunity to experience different teams.
Not coming from a finance background at university, I really appreciated the accounting training they gave us in the week leading up to the internship. They brought in senior members from the bank to talk to us on several occassions and invested a lot of time in us.

I am aware that they will be taking on Graduates, however they haven't been clear on numbers yet. If I were to be offered a job I would be very happy to accept.
The Culture
There were only two of us in our department so the social scene was lacking somewhat, however we did have several events with otgher interns.
St Pauls isn't cheap but that is to be expected when working in London. Meal Pal was a great help when I didn't bring in my own food.
There are plenty of bars and clubs in the local area. Thursdays are a great day for work drinks and I often met friends in Bank, or bars by the office.
While there I got involved in the JP Morgan Run, I did a charity run through the Banks running club. I also joined the kickboxing club and trained with them. Additionally we had a few lunches to celebrate joining the different teams, alongside drinks events for us Interns and the joining Grads.
