The Role
I loved my internship at E. ON! I was doing an undergraduate marketing internship over 10 weeks of the summer and it was a fantastic decision to apply. From day one I was made to feel welcome by my team and wider colleagues. I was given a variety of interesting and engaging work across a variety of channels, with plenty of responsibility.
On my first day about 15 minutes after I arrived my team went for a coffee and went round introducing themselves to me. Throughout the internship they gave me work and constantly were asking my thought process and how that would work from a customer perspective. They even asked me for advice on their projects too which was great!
I had weekly catch ups with my manager about the projects I was working on and next steps. He was really supportive, happy to answer any questions. As part of this we looked at areas I wasn't working in but would like to know more about and got me time with these areas - such as digital marketing, arranging calls with our agencies and even Google!
I had a great workload! This meant I constantly had something to be getting on with, without feeling stressed or worried. My manager was conscious about my workload and making sure I didn't feel overwhelmed, so I could deliver my best work whilst here. They also set up mini projects for me to be getting on with in my last 2 weeks as my main projects were finishing which was great.
I took on a number of projects that I led on and others that I supported my colleagues on. The projects I led on were mine - from managing agencies, to liaising with stakeholders and deploying with CRM. I even made it onto a colleagues out of office on her emails!
I can't speak highly enough about my time at E. ON. It has allowed me to fully understand the marketing process in real life (and not just what they say at uni), as well as develop skills such as agency management, copy writing and presenting, plus I used applications such as Microsoft Visio.
The Company
The general atmosphere in the office was relaxed. Everyone was really welcoming to me and were happy to answer any questions on wider areas of marketing. I had a great team - we had team meals and even a team night out! My team even set up a session where they went round and discussed their careers and how they ended up in the role they are now which was great to hear the different pathways they took.
Prior to joining an undergrad facebook page was set up by HR, this was useful to e-meet people before starting. We also had graduate buddies which was useful in the run up to joining and to ask questions re dress code and parking! My manager wasn't told I'd be joining the team until the week before, which meant I didn't hear from him until not long before I joined.
The team invested a lot of time in me, nothing was too much trouble and no question too stupid. My manager organized catch ups on different aspects of marketing from PR, engagement and retention, to brand and digital areas. I also had brand and tone of voice training whilst there delivered by the brand team.

The Culture
There were 3 other marketing interns, we often went out for dinner, drinks or out out! Also had a couple of nights out with the other interns based in Nottingham which was nice! The social life was what you did rather than it being a pre-organized thing. One of the interns was social sec at uni so he took the lead and organized get togethers. We also met every other Thursday in work time to see how we were all getting on with projects.
The cost of living didn't apply to me as I lived at home, the cost of socializing to me is normal as I have grown up in Nottingham so it is what I know. As for socializing it isn't too expensive (depending on your drink of choice!). Those from Londong thought it was cheap though.
Good. There is a mixture of bars, restaurants and clubs. There is also plenty of non alcoholic stuff to do like escape rooms, mini golf and bowling, so whatever you like to do to socialize or fancy doing there is plenty to do! These are all in walking distance of the town office, but where I was based it is about half an hour / 40 minutes away.
