The Role
It was an extremely interesting placement. The main reason for this was the fact that it allowed you to rotate between three different desks, gaining a much wider insight of the sales/trading environment that by staying at one desk for the whole summer. The employees are extremely supportive, friendly and motivating.
Employees values the presence of interns, this was highlighted by the tasks allocated to us.
There was always an available point of contact - this made it very easy to approach someone if need be.
Despite working on the main report, each person on the team can give you a small side task to complete for them. This means you are always on your toes.
It was interesting to see the amount of responsibility allocated to me. In one of the desks, I had to write out morning news letters, and summary reports for clients and the global team. Additionally, some supervisors would ask me to conduct research for them.
The academic and technical skills will be extremely useful should I continue in this sector. However, the confidence, team working and public speaking skills developed from this placement are something I can take with me anywhere.
