The Role
The bank is great at ensuring you can get involved in anything and everything that interests you both in a daily work environment and socially.
I was given equal responsibility meaning I could add value to projects/ deliverables and save others' time.
To the extent that the process was clearly explained the guidance was amazing but after that there is no 'micro managing'.
Most days I have been completely occupied by projects and meetings but never to the extent of being stressed about not finishing.
Quite a lot for an intern, I have been working on developing the methodology for a new process for future reporting to the FCA as well as performing the design testing on head office departments' controls.
I have had vast development in my understanding of financial services' regulatory requirements (for the FCA and PRA) as well as new technical skills such as statistical analysis within excel.
The Company
Departments quite often have 'FIKAs' which are breaks in work time for a chat and food, so I would say always relaxed and friendly.
Interns have an initiation day at the beginning to get to know each other and to give HR time to explain the structure of the internship, after which the interns are given autonomy over how they work and meet until the final week of presenting projects and reflecting back.
Everyone is given mandatory training and then personalised training depending on what tasks you will be taking over in the given weeks.
Flexi Time
Sports and Social Club
Company Parties/Events
Working from home
I will definitely look to return to the bank in the future.
The Culture
There is a social night each week as well as various sports committees at lunch times or after work.
I commuted into the head office in Manchester via Piccadilly station but lunches are average to cheap.
Lots ands lots to choose from in Manchester, all enjoyable nights.
Yes, sports etc.
