The Role
I really enjoyed my summer internship here at Barclays. One has access to so many opportunities in terms of networking and learning. Furthermore, my internship area is very interesting and I have been able to build knowledge on the topic. Finally, I enjoyed networking with Barclays' colleagues, they are very friendly and are willing to help.
It varied. This depends mostly on performance. I feel very well valued by my MD and Line Manager, however, not as much by other members of the team. However, I can confirm I was supported throughout the whole process and I had no problems in terms of relationships with my colleagues, they have been assets for me and have helped me throughout the whole process.
The support and guidance given by my supervisors has been second to none, I am amazed with how much guidance they have offered in terms of suggestions, feedback and help when doing tasks. I felt comfortable asking questions at any moment and without doubt, without the support I received I would not had been able to do so well.
Very busy. If not meeting people in the organisation, I was in a Intern learning Session, a Corporate Event or just working ion my desk on my tasks. No time to be doing something else. This was great as it pushed me outside my comfort zone and I managed to develop my capacity.
Not as much as I would have liked to. It got better towards the end of the internship where I had the chance to meet stakeholders by myself. However, the tasks given were mostly administrative. All I did was very important but I just prefer a customer facing role instead of doing Microsoft Office.
The skills developed are vital for my future. Starting with communication and networking skills. I feel that during this internship I have been able to meet lots of people and I have become more extroverted. Then office skills such as outlook, Excel and PowerPoint. Vital in a career and a future, I am very glad I have put these skills into use.
The Company
Extremely good. People are kind and always smiling, they open the doors for you and try to have a positive attitude towards new joiners. Furthermore, everyone is serious about doing their job, therefore, I felt motivated throughout the whole day. Finally, the office is very cool and has amazing facilities, this improves everything.
Very well done. It is obvious that HR have been working very hard in order to prepare and having everything ready for the interns. There has been good guidance and a very good performance management review process, allowing the interns to know what kind of work they are delivering to the business and if that is what they are expected to do.
Strong training and development. Bringing speakers into the organisation and giving us learning sessions. It is obvious that Barclays is very serious about development of talent. They spend and invest into improving the resources available for interns in ode to leverage their learning potential, education is vital for the future of the firm.
Very appealing. However, I do not want to work in London in the future. I can see myself in Barclays but not in London. Switzerland and southern Europe are very appealing options. I really like Barclays as I feel I can be an asset to the firm and also be happy.
The Culture
Second to none, all the interns got on very very well.
Expensive both London and especially the Canary Wharf.
N/A
London has everything you need.
