    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed the summer internship! Great work/life balance with both interesting projects and organised intern events. In terms of work, no day was the same which was exciting and challenging. The projects I was given were meaningful. There was an array of events organised from social ones to work orientated events.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Although just being an intern, I felt part of the team quickly.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • At the start of the internship the interns were given buddys, who were either on the graduate scheme or have just rolled off of it. This was really useful as you could ask them about the bank generally or even about the internship as they had completed the internship before too. Management was also very useful in terms of giving guidance on the projects!

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Most days I was really busy as I was meeting a lot of people from various teams in the department in order to broaden my knowledge. My project was also time consuming however I was able to complete it in a timely fashion and so was given extra work! I was really grateful for this.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a fair amount of responsibility, for example for my project I was just given an objective and had to decide the best way to combat and present my findings.

    3/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I completed an Economics and Finance degree and so the internship assisted in reiterating things I learnt in particular modules. In terms of skills, I was able to utilise problem solving skills which I had developed throughout my degree. However, I also developed essential transferable skills which I can use in everyday life a prime example being professionalism, communication skills and confidence.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Really great atmosphere!! Brilliant work/life balance. Everyone is so friendly and willing to help. Depending where your stationed will vary but something that is definite is that the banks values and ethos can be clearly seen throughout the offices which not only makes it a great place to start off your career but the bets place.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Excellent! The internship was very well organised with absolutely no hiccups throughout the 10 weeks!! there were plenty of work and social events organised for us interns which was not only informative but so much fun! The organisers were very reliable and if you had any questions on anything their responses were very quick!

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The first week of the internship is spent majority of the time outside the office, at an external site! This week is very informative in terms of basic banking knowledge and the background of the bank. The training half way through the week is also tailored to the division you're in! Throughout the internship, there are many opportunities to develop skills and knowledge with the organised events.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • The internship gives you a great opportunity to get onto the graduate scheme and not only that but actually assists with you the relevant and essential skills to make oneself a better candidate for employment prospects! The bank has great mobility and there is plenty of opportunity to network amongst the department!

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Many organised social events for the interns right from the get go! This is particularly useful at the start when you don't know anyone! Moreover, these events continued for example going to the escape rooms or intern breakfasts. My team were really welcoming and I even attended team drinks! Other interns are so nice!

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I lived and commuted from my family home as I luckily live in London. Travel in London is as expected however would advice getting a 16-25 railcard! Being located in the City of London there is so much to do and see just steps away from the office, for example bars, restaurants, galleries, shops etc.

    5/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • 5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • So many activities that one could get involved in outside of work! The bank has an arts programme which gives you free or subsidised entry into exhibitions at the top gallery's or museums. There is ample opportunities to get involved in volunteering inside and outside of the bank! Other activities include going to the gym or playing in a sports team!
