The Role
I had a great experience during my internship. I thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere in my office which was friendly and relaxed and everyone was very willing to offer their support. I always had work to do, which was brilliant because it meant that my days always followed a structure and had a purpose.
I feel very lucky to have done this internship - HSBC have invested a lot of time and money in me. My colleagues have been very supportive, always willing to offer a hand.
I felt I always had many points of contacts - I had two line managers, with whom I had regular one to ones. I had a mentor on the graduate scheme, who was very supportive. I also reached out to a mentor in COO, with whom I had regular chats. I felt like if I was ever confused by a topic, I could always ask someone.
It varied from day to day, but by having a portfolio of projects I felt like there was always something to do. I had three main projects to work on in the office and a charity project which was also a greatly rewarding task. Having projects gave me this focus; but it was not excessive and I never felt like I had to stay in the office particularly late one night.
I think I was given a good balance of responsibility. As an intern, I don't think we should be running the show! But there were times where I was in a position of great responsibility and it was a fantastic experience - often I was speaking on calls with multiple senior people for example.
I have certainly developed skills for life. Significantly, I have improved my presentation skills which will stand me in good stead. Beforehand, I was very nervous if I ever had to do any public speaking. I have learnt much about working life, as this has been my first permanent taste of a weekly 9-5 job.
The Company
General atmosphere was very positive and friendly. Everyone was very receptive to conversations and questions.
Outstanding - always had something to do, and my trips to Birmingham were always very well organised.
They invested a lot - I always had necessary support and felt like a lot of time went into my training.

Very appealing - if I get an offer, I will definitely be accepting!
The Culture
Yes - we had to organise this ourselves largely but was very good to see other colleagues outside of work.
Cost of living was relatively cheap - the area I worked was outside of the city centre but the city centre was accessible so I often went there for socialising.
I did not test out the Nightlife very much but when I did go out in the city centre, it was great fun!
Yes there was always an advertisement going around about charities/graduate work etc.
