The Role
I very much enjoyed my internship. I was able to work in a wide variety of areas within the industry and work with some of the best experts in the field. I also enjoyed the atmosphere of the office as it made it feel more relaxed and a good place to work
When involved in a project, I definitely feel like I was a values member of the team. I was given a decent amount of work to complete and there were always people willing to help me if I got stuck. Outside of projects, people were always very friendly and during the various out of work activities I got to know people quite well
The support given by other members of the team I was working in and my line manager was very good. I never felt like I couldn't ask a question and always felt supported in my projects. There were a lot of support sessions we attended as well which provided us with a good background of knowledge to support us throughout our internship
Towards the beginning of the internship, there were some days when I didn't have a large amount to do, however, after the first couple of weeks it became much busier and I managed to find a good balance between work and training. This meant that I was able to keep on top of what I needed to do, whilst increasing my knowledge in useful areas
I was given quite a lot of responsibility when it came to some projects. The policy with this company is to have Tech reviews of any work done. Therefore, I feel I had as much responsibility as other members of the team, and in the projects where a tech review wasn't required, I felt my ideas where listened to well so I was responsible for the work I delivered
I believe that the skills I have learned and the training I have received while I have been here will help a lot with my degree studies. In particular, I feel that I have been able to improve skills which were weak in the past but will definitely help me to succeed in my degree in future years
The Company
The atmosphere was very relaxed and friendly. There was no pressure to get things right first time, especially for interns, as it was expected that we were to ask anyone around us any question we had. Through the practice of hotdesking we were able to meet everyone in the office very quickly and felt comfortable asking anyone, no matter how senior, questions on what we were working on
I believe that the internship was quite well organised. We had lots of training days planned which all ran very smoothly. The only thing I did find unhelpful was that we had training on particular programs about 5 weeks into an 8 week placement, meaning that most of us had already used and learnt these programs, rendering the training useless
They provided all the training and gave us the resources to complete our work. They also made sure that we were developing the skills through the work we were doing and not just completing menial tasks. Overall, I feel that I developed a lot during my 8 week placement here.

The future employment prospects in this organisation are very good. Most graduates who join the company qualify as an actuary within 4 years of joining and then they can continue to work up the company, gaining skills along the way. There is also a lot of support for graduates when it comes to training and preparing for exams.
The Culture
All of the interns got along well and we would often go out and get lunch together or go for a drink after work. It felt very relaxed as we had to work with each other to complete some jobs. It was also nice to have grads who were willing to talk to us and show us around the office when we first arrived
I commuted from home, but the travel expenses were very expensive. When it came to socialising however, the bars nearby were alright, by London standards, but there were also lots of food places that were reasonable. Being in central london also means there is a wide range of activities available for a variety of prices.
As I commuted in from home, I was unable to experience the nightlife.
At the company, they had HUBS, which were groups of people throughout the business structure, at different levels, who met regularly and discussed work and other things. In these Hubs we went on activities, with one of those activities being stand up paddleboarding on a nearby canal. Overall, I would say there were plenty of opportunities to get involved.
