The Role
I really enjoyed it overall. Even despite having far less experience than others, my team was very open and warm, always willing to spend time to teach me things I did not understand. I also enjoyed working with the other interns and felt like we could go to one another with any problems or questions we had.
I think that because people were willing to give me work and willing to spend a lot of time walking me through different processes and teaching me, I felt valued. Furthermore, they were all very friendly and open, and I would like to think that if I ever had any problems or struggles, I could go to them.
Whenever I had a question, I knew that there were multiple people I could go to. I often asked my supervisor to speak with me one on one, when I felt like I had any issues or questions. Furthermore, when I was first beginning and much more nervous, everyone was supportive and gave feedback when I asked for it.
Beginning of the summer was much busier than the end, but this had to do with the industry we worked in (August and Summer are always slower). This was busier than usual for the season, but the work was always welcome because it gave us the opportunity to do much more. The end of the internship slowed down as expected and it was a nice change, allowing us to focus on other projects.
I was given a lot of responsibility, even though I have less experience than other interns. I was able to work directly with more senior members of the team and liase directly with partners/advisors. Because I was working on certain projects largely on my own or under the supervision of my analyst/associate who was very helpful, I felt like I was able to take ownership and responsibility without feeling lost or overwhelmed.
I think that this experience has taught me more than I would ever have learned in a classroom/in my degree and studies. I did not necessarily know what to expect when I first began, but when comparing my experience to that of some of my peers, I think that I was given a much greater opportunity to learn both technically and theoretically. My experience will definitely benefit me in the future in multiple ways.
The Company
Because many people have been travelling/on holiday, the office was slightly quieter. That being said, everyone is very friendly and nice, and while there is some structure to the office, in terms of interaction, hierarchy was flatter. People try to always go to lunch together, and everyone is generally very friendly and warm.
I think that overall, the internship is set up well. Given that the team I was on is much smaller, there is less of a clear cut organisation. You work directly with analysts/associates/above but people are flexible and considerate of your workload. Furthermore, you have the opportunity to work on many different types of deals and projects.
Given that people were willing to spend hours and days explaining new topics to me, checking over my work, etc. I felt like they invested a lot of time and effort to ensure that I had every opportunity to learn and take on more responsibility. Furthermore, the team gave me many opportunities to take on new responsibilities, and I think that was a really invaluable experience.

Unsure of the status at the moment, but regardless I am extremely happy with my experience here. Everyone within my team was really nice and friendly, as well as the other interns across the organisation. It is known that they like to hire within the firm (i.e. people who have had experience with them before) and so even by completing this work experience, there is a better prospect that I would otherwise have.
The Culture
I absolutely loved the other interns I was working with, both within my team and outside of my team. It is nice to have a large cohort you can mix with, but also have a good group of people you interact with everyday. I found that I spent a lot of time, both in and out of the office with my fellow interns and believe that we will continue to stay close beyond this summer.
The area itself is much more affordable than some other areas. That being said, I did not live in the immediate area and so I cannot comment on the actual affordability. In terms of food, etc. I would say that they have good varied options, but it is still somewhat limited because it is removed from central London.
We did not really go out much in the area, but often travelled into central for actual nightlife/socialisation. There are some bars/etc in the area, but no where that people would really stay for a night out. That being said, easy commute into central and plenty of options there if needed.
Weekends, yes you generally have more time to do other things. That being said, if there was work to do, you would need to get it done. On the weekdays, generally not much time to have other activities (maybe some time for fitness before and after work, but depends on the team/schedule, etc.)
