    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • 8 - The entire internhip went very well and ran very smoothly, towards the end I found myself quite busy which I enjoyed and I enjoyed adding some value to the team where I could. The reason I did not put a 10 was because at the start of my placement my manager was busy and I perhaps didn't get the time and direction on the first week but everything else was great

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt very valued by my colleagues being the only intern in my section in my area I was able to help a lot of RM's and the staff in my local center and really felt like I was able to add value. I felt like they were always supportive when I needed them to be and overall they were great and gave me some really fantastic opportunities

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I got a lot of guidance in the middle and end of my internship from my line manager and the area director, this often involved giving me little adhoc tasks to do when I felt like I didn't have as much to do as well as setting up opprotunities for me to visit other office and have meetings with people in other areas of the bak that I displayed an interest

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Towards the end there was a lot of workload on me, but this pressure was more personal as I didn't want to let anyone down, even though my manager did mention that it was okay if I didn't get to finish everything as the tasks were very time consuming and he said that the graduate that was income can come into these tasks and complete them where I didn't finish them. I really enjoyed having so much to do though as one of my concerns was that I wouldn't have enough to do on the internship

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I felt like I had a lot of responsibility on my placement, I was given tasks that the RM's are meant to complete by November so to take on some of their projects really felt like I got to show how good I was at taking responsibility with these tasks and completing them in a quality manner.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • There were many skills that I was able to develop on the internship, the one that I think will help most going forward is the time management, I leant a lot on this in terms of managing my time between intern commitments as well as placement work as well as managing my time on placement work between different RM's who maybe need a bit more help. As well as this I felt like I really developed my work ethic on the internship which will be a skill that is really useful going foward

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • the general atmosphere was very welcoming and inviting and there was definitely a supporting culture in the office, even in the junior RSO's and RM's they felt comfortable to ask for help from everyone

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The placement work was not that organised, and instead I was given these main projects to work on and then little adhoc tasks to do inbetween this placement project work.

    3/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • HSBC invested hugely in personal training and development, for example with the help of my line manager I was able to organise a call with Liz Martins from the economics department of HSBC and I felt given my studies this was really useful in terms of my personal development, this as well as the discovery day and the induction day and the CSR days I felt these were all incredibly beneficial in terms of my personal development

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    National Travel

    5/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • the internship has made me realise how great HSBC would be to work for as a company and the culture and company values are really reflected throughout the business and not just in the head office

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • At my office the social scene was not as present as it seemed in other offices, but I think that was more because of the personal preferences of people in my office rather than anything else

    2/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I lived at home during my internship so I was only paying for a seasonal train ticket, so the living costs are pretty low

    5/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • As I was living at home and commuting from quite far away I was not able to explore the nightlife in the local area as much as I would have liked

    2/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • In the office there wasn't that much in terms of activities that we could get involved in, this is something that could maybe be improved in the Bristol office

    1/5
