The Role
I really enjoyed the team and manager I had. They were extremely welcoming and helpful as well as giving me a large amount of responsibility. I felt that I learnt a lot on this internship which I am happy with.
I think that some of the work I did was very useful as it would be covering work/projects that they just didn't have the capacity to complete. Occasionaly jobs would be quite straightforward and I felt that my colleagues gave me the work just to keep me busy.
There was a huge amount of support on this internship. I felt that I could always ask and approach my manager which I really valued. We also had wider support from the intern team which we knew was there if we needed it.
It definitely varied. For the work I was doing I would sometimes have to ask for more work, but I did have other side projects e.g. fundraising, that I could get stuck into if I found that I wasn't that busy
I was given a lot of responsibility which I appreciated. I had working relationships with external agencies where I was representing HSBC which I really enjoyed. Naturally some things was out of my responsibilities but this was usually down to regular procedure etc
I think the main skills I will use at university are the time management, balancing priorities and presentation skills. Not too many technical skills such as using a certain programme were gained but this is not expected anyway.
The Company
I had a really fun team who were very enthusiastic and interested in me and what I did. This helped build working relationships and I genuinely enjoyed being in the office even if it was quiet at times when people were working hard.
I think the coherence of my individual project with some of the other training days could have been better. As sometimes you would miss important meetings or dates that were useful for your project to go for training days.
I think they gave us quite generic tools etc to try and develop us but didn't necessarily show an interest directly in me because of the number of interns there were.
Very appealing as it's a huge organisation with many exciting opportunities available
The Culture
Yes it was a very sociable group of interns and this made my time here even more enjoyable
I was fortunate enough to live at home as I live in London but if I had to rent it would have been very expensive, the socialising was also expensive as I was in and around London for events
It was very enjoyable but unless you lived right in the city you would have to leave early to get trains home so harder to stay out longer etc. There are some very nice and lively bars that are perfect for after work however.
Yes, we had the fundraising challenge that allowed us to get creative. I also got to go to a sports day with my team as team building.
