The Role
I really enjoyed it. I had an idea of what the overall work might involve but had no idea what I'd be doing on a day-to-day basis. In this regard, there was a great mix of tasks and good balance between technical work and work with colleagues.
I felt valued by my close colleagues the further on my placement went. Whether this was because I'd proven myself or because I just knew my colleagues better I'm not sure. I would say towards the end I felt like much more of a team member than a temporary intern.
It was sometimes hard to get time because of their busy schedules but whenever I needed support or guidance I could book in time with my colleagues that they would take seriously.
Massively varied. At times I was really busy; when I was at a critical part of the project or when I was working on my presentations. It also helped having a small role in meetings so I felt engaged in these. I wasn't that busy early on because I feel my team had planned what my overall goal was but not necessarily how I'd get there so was sometimes not as busy as I'd like.
Towards the end I was given a good level of responsibility This came from my manager really investing in me and making sure I was producing work that was value to me and the team and I really valued this.
I think they will really help. Mostly just on a personal level, but also inn terms of time management and working in teams. To have experience in a professional environment was great for my confidence.
The Company
Nice but it was quite big and impersonal, so not massively sociable
I mentioned before, but I wasn't completely immersed from the start. As time went on, I got busier and busier.
I felt really valued by the range of projects and external work we were required to produce. The value put on personal development was very clear at the induction days, development days and celebration event.
Really good. Development on the grad programme and the range of roles within the organisation are attractive.
The Culture
Very good amongst interns. Not so great in my office.
Very high
OK but expensive.
Yes a fair few but you can only expect so much over 8 weeks.
