The Role
My placement was very educational in terms of the whole industry, the structure of the bank, our customer base and the banks values. They gave me freedom and value adding projects. They made me feel valued and appreciated. I also learned a lot about my personal working style by getting exposure to colleagues with different experiences, in different areas and different skill sets.
My colleagues, regardless of seniority have supported me throughout my whole journey. They have made me feel like a valued member of the team by including me in team meetings and calls and actively asking for my opinion. I was also shown how my project is value adding and important in terms of the team pillars.
I had many different support systems to fall back to when I needed. I have weekly and daily catch-ups with different stakeholders who gave me feedback throughout, helped my personal and professional development and encouraged me to learn, be curious and grow. I was always encouraged to be open and share my thoughts.
The workload was a perfect amount. I never felt bored, however I was not overworked either.
I was given freedom to openly express my opinions and ideas. I was given enough responsibility to confidently take the lead in the project with reasonable boundaries. My manager was there to advise me and help me with more technical tasks that required different access levels, however she gave me complete freedom to implement my ideas.
I learned a lot about myself as an individual. Gained transferable skills like teamwork, networking skills and communication skills. I have also been able to put in practice a lot of the things I have read about and talked about in lecture halls which has enhanced my understanding of the modules. I have also gained valuable connections both with peers as well as senior colleagues.
