The Role
I really enjoyed the opportunity to learn more about the industry and work so closely with senior leaders. I was also able to work on various projects that higher members of the team would be able to. I was also given quite a bit of responsibility and my work was valued. I never felt like I was given work just for the sake of it.
I was really lucky to have my team, as they encouraged me to grow as an individual but also within a team. Also, when I met with various members not in my team, they were so welcoming and answered any questions I had. Even though we were interns we were treated as valuable people to the company
I was so lucky to have the team that I had. I was able to grow and develop in ways I could not have imagined. If I was struggling with a piece of work or needed some help, I was able to to get the support I needed. My team always made sure that everything was okay and checked up on me regularly.
My days varied. Sometimes I had a lot of work that I found it a bit hard to manage all at once and other days I had barely anything and finished it quite quickly. It purely depended on the day and what was happening in the moment. Although, when having a lot of work it was a little bit stressful and I did feel a bit lost
Working alongside senior people and having people in my team valued so highly I was expected to present everything 70% stakeholder ready. At the beginning this was a lot of pressure but once I focused on making sure I had the content that I needed, I could then make sure my work was at the level it needed to be. But also, I did have to do the easy jobs e.g. checking a document to make sure it was grammatically correct or if there was continuity and that sometimes was a little dull
I have come out of this internship with way more knowledge then I expected to get in a positive way. I thought I knew how to communicate with various people and had pretty good PowerPoint skills. But working with my team has made me realise that it takes so much more in order to be ready for the business world. That is something I will take to back to uni
The Company
It varies day to day. Sometimes it would be super nosy it would be so difficult to get things done and sometimes you had to move away. Other times it would be lovely, as you could have small chats with people while working but also get to know the people around you.
I have a disability so the measures I needed were not in place, so I struggled more than I expected. But throughout my time, HR and my team worked hard to ensure I had some of what I needed in order to carry out my day to day work. Weekly we had a senior member of staff come and speak to us which was great and things were put in our diary so we could get a taste of the company. However, there was barely any social events
We had a presentation skills day training in order to work on those skills. This allowed us to tailor the way we speak to business leaders but also to get us ready for our group project which we had to present. We were also able to network freely to different members of staff
This is an organisation that allows you to grow. You are encouraged to make mistakes to learn
The Culture
The interns went out every Friday but this was organised amongst ourselves . When we started the internship we had one social event which was bowling and after the volunteer day we had dinner and drinks together. Also, when we finished the internship we had breakfast in the morning which was a nice way to end the internship
It was fine, as I lived with home with my parents. All I had to do commute in. Drinks were good as it was happy hour every day from 5pm to 7pm
Happy hour is very popular
Volunteer was a chance to enjoy the otherside of the company
