The Role
Baxter was a great company to work, I found everyone I came into contact with extremely friendly and approachable. I bonded really well with my team which made my role very enjoyable. They have great corporate values and there is a real emphasis on work life balance. I learned so much during my time with Baxter and would definitely consider going into the healthcare sector in the future.
Great friendly team very informal atmosphere
Felt comfortable and able to approach my manager with any problems I had
I could have handled more work at times
I had the opportunity to run my own projects which was great
I was grateful to be given the opportunity to attend many training workshops during my time with Baxter. Communicating with lmpact and harnessing your personal impact were two of my favourite courses that I had the opportunity to attend. These will definitely assist with my final year at university and give me the confidence to speak publicly. I also developed many softer skills such as project management and time management which I will carry forward at university.
The Company
The general atmosphere in the office was relaxed and welcoming. Baxter have an open door policy whereby if any of the senior managements door was open you could go in for a chat. Some days the office was quite quiet as a lot of people work from home a few days a week.
The placement was organised very well as there had been previous students so with regards to structure it was done very well. I had clear defined goals which I set at the beginning of my placement and I tracked my goals throughout the year which was a great way of seeing my progression.
I attended a few training workshops throughout my year which aided my development which in turn helped me carry out my role more effectively. I would have liked to have attended a sales training workshop but wasn’t able to due to availability and budget but overall I received a good amount of personal training.

Baxter offer a great graduate scheme with 4 six month rotations. Baxter really value young talent and strive to develop the younger generations. They have a group called early career professionals which aims to bring young talent into the business and enhance the current employees development opportunities. Future employment prospects at Baxter are very appealing.
The Culture
There is a social committee that put on events and activities in the office from time to time which was a great way of getting away from the desk and interact with the wider office. The placement students also bonded well and we occasionally met up outside of the work place.
I lodged with a family in the village in which I paid per night I stayed, the price was very reasonable and it worked well for me. With regards to socialising there is Newbury 20 mins drive away or one pub in the village. I can’t say I did much socialising during my placement year due to the location.
This is one of the few negatives of the placement year. The location is quite rural so there’s not a lot going on in the area. I went home every weekend so didn’t experience any sort of night life. Newbury is the nearest town which would have nightlife but this would be something to consider.
There was volunteering opportunities to get involved with such as helping out and the local schools, litter picking or doing charity work. Baxter have a great sense of social corporate responsibility which I admired. During some team meetings we participated in some social team bonding activities which where great fun.
