    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I loved my internship. It was my first internship ever in a bank, and it really made me understand that I would love to work in such an environment after my studies. The office in Paris is incredible, the people working here are committed and passionate about their job. I learnt so much in such a little time. Overall, I am really happy about my experience.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt very valued by the teams I interned in. Each of them made sure that I was feeling part of the team, that I always had something to do, and that I was learning a lot. According to me, the team you intern in and your relationship with the members of that team, is what determine your experience in the first place. Words can't describe how happy I feel to have interned in those specific teams, and to have had the managers I had. They were great mentors, and made me love this job.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My supervisors have always given me clear guidance. I always knew what to do; I was never bored. They really made sure that I was having a great experience, learning as much as I can, but also enjoying my time in the bank (ie taking part to activities organized in the evening such as Yoga/Football , and network with other desks as well).

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I had a good balance. I think that this really depends on how you are able to organize your time/whether you procrastinate or not. The amount of work was intense but always reasonable; it really depended on how productive you were during your days. I believe that it is totally possible to submit a great assignment and do a great presentation, without the need of staying until very late in the office every day. It really depends on time management.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Even though I am a second year undergraduate and that I am only 19, I really felt like I was helping my team on daily tasks. Each of the team I interned in made me feel useful and included. By helping them on those daily tasks, and not just sitting on my own working on my project, I could see and understand better what their job was like.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Skills for life! Talking with my university friends lately made me realize how much I changed over the summer. Not only did I learn analytical tools/ finance related matters, but I also grew as a person. I feel that I am way more outspoken; I understood the importance of networking. I found a great life balance, working hard during the day and not procrastinating, and then going home and having a good amount of sleep. Not drinking too much coffee... and many other small daily habits that made my lifestyle healthier and happier. But the most important skill I gained is determination. I started my internship wondering what I would do after my university degree, and working in a bank was an option. Now I know that working in a bank, and possibly in BOAML, is my priority. I know that this is where I want to be in a year's time, and I will work hard to make it happen.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • I would define it friendly/positively competitive. The people working here are keen on helping each other, helping the intern, and at the same time they are determined to do their job well, and possibly better than the others. This is an environment that encourage you to thrive and do better every day.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Amazingly seamless. I have to say that I admire the people that made all of this possible. I can't even imagine how much work all of this requires. All the networking events, the conferences, the women-focused discussions, were incredibly well organized. I will remember this experience for all my life.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I could feel the firm's focus to invest in the interns every day. The trainings, networking breakfasts, IP sessions, webex... were really useful in term of personal development. The focus of the people working here to teach us was great. In fact, this internship really helped me to develop a new range of skills and grow as a person.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Once again, I would define it positively competitive. We were all keen on helping each other and I know that I have made friends for life. At the same time, we were all competing for the same thing; a job. We all wanted the others to perform well, and at the same time, we wanted to perform even better. This is the kind of environment that makes people do a great job.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Paris is a pretty expensive city, but the remuneration of the internship made it easy to socialize.

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • I don't really know

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Yes! From Yoga classes to after-work cocktails and theater sessions.
